<Hammdist>
ID 0bda:c811 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. 802.11ac NIC <-- anyone knows if this can be supported cleanly? armbian includes 8821cu but things freeze up every 5min or so requiring frequent usbreset
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <Werner> Maybe its just suffering from undervoltage?
<Hammdist>
I suppose that's possible as I'm not using the official adapter
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <Werner> "official adapter" doesn't have to mean anything. They can be as bad as 3rd party ones. usb wifi sticks can draw quite some current and losses across wires, connectors and the board itself accumulate
<Hammdist>
sorry I didn't mention this is on an rpi5. the official adapter is souped up to emit 5v+delta
<Hammdist>
I do have some undervoltage warnings in the dmesg logs
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <Werner> I dunno about rpi5 but I bet for once that the official adapter outputs slightly above 5 volts and for the other that this board just like many others enjoy being fed with slight overvoltage to compensate for losses due to voltage breakdown under load.
<Hammdist>
yea .. techmology

rpi5 needs some extra entry in config.txt to enable more than 600mA @ usb sockets IIRC (if you dont use the official psu)
<Herc>
undervoltage must be avoided in any case

Does armbian-build have facilities for adding out-of-tree kernel drivers to an image?
<Hammdist>
any way to determine how many watts at 5v are being advertised by a connected usbc power adapter on the rpi5?

<Herc>
PSU_MAX_CURRENT=5000 is another option to use your current psu, dunno if you put in in config.txt or into the eeprom, just google it
<Herc>
the pi5 has a new "Power Management Chip" which asks a PD usbc PSU if it can deliver 5A. PSU_MAX_CURRENT entry can override that if there is no proper answer.
<Herc>
eg, if you use the GPIO pins
* Herc
never had to try that (using the official PSU)
<Dex2x>
Interesting there is a ubuntu-rockchip, for the opi 5
<Dex2x>
well I am going to try debian, there is no OPOs, or armbian for the ultra... yet
