<DC-IRC> [Discord] <xmort> Can you get armbian to download kernel sources somehow? I can't find kernel sources in the docker volumes or the various working directories armbian uses, so I assume it's using a pre-built kernel
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <xmort> I need to patch the kernel but to do that I need the kernel source so that I can run git format-patch
SymbioticFemale has left #armbian [#armbian]
arch3r has quit [Quit: bye]
arch3r has joined #armbian
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> You can either use `ARTIFACT_IGNORE_CACHE=yes` to force building from scratch which will download the sources or use `kernel-patch` which will do this as well and allows you to create patches on the fly
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <n4cnr> when you do a build does it make a list of installed pkgs
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <n4cnr> and where does it put it

nodelay has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> doesn't dpkg/apt retain said list?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <n4cnr> it maintains allthe pkgs not thebase ones last I checked
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <n4cnr> and armbian fored a updat and lucky I backedup my src
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <n4cnr> I have to redo all mychanges but its easy atthis point
<Dex2x> ARg this sucks, the debian image 6.10 from Orangepi , for the 5 ultra, does not work, balaetcher refuses to load it, can't mount the .iso in windows either
<mort> have you tried just writing the ISO to an SD card?
<mort> as in just dd the bytes over
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> Etcher is garbage, if USBImager can't do it then the image is genuinely bad, Windows *shouldn't* be able to mount it
<mort> yeah, they are typically a GPT partition table with an ext4 partition, Windows doesn't do ext4
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> there are a few implementations, they range from horrific to unusable, though WSL should be able to mount it directly iirc
<Dex2x> Well I can try dd
<Dex2x> I used usbimager and no luck
<mort> as in it didn't boot or as in usbimager wasn't able to even write it to an SD card?
<Dex2x> didn't boto
<Dex2x> boot **, just two white led flashes
<Dex2x> I will give dd a go now
<Dex2x> :/ okay that was a bust, I thought maybe it was the sdcard, tried win32 imager with a different sdcard
<Dex2x> Im probably going to have to also get UART on this
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> sounds like the image is garbage tbh
<Dex2x> well kernel 5.10 booted
<Dex2x> gotta love UART serial debug ports
<Dex2x> hmmm 6.1 image might be bad, I see Starting kernel... but it seems stuck there
<Dex2x> ah omw it booted ! used dd with the 6.1
<Dex2x> I think I need to switch to a debian mirror, instead of the huawei cloud
