<Dex2x> well this is just odd, all I see in the debug UART, is starting kernel, for 2 minutes now. I wonder if this is volume expansion or something happening
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> You can edit it armbianEnv.txt and set verbosity=7 to increase output after starting kernel
<Dex2x> That is useful to know, but seems clearing the spi did it
<Dex2x> I am running into some issues with time during the first time setup, even though i correctly selected my country, the time is 1 hour behind :/
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> dpkg-reconfigure tzdata
nodelay has joined #armbian
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Probably discrepancy due to summer time /standard time
<Dex2x> That helps a lot, now just 19 minutes behind :D
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> That should clear up itself. I think systemd comes with ntpd
<Dex2x> Hmmm, I think debian's ntpd is broken, I installed debian onto my N150 mini pc, and after 5 hours it still didn't correct the time, it was 5 hours behind, and tzdata was correct
nodelay has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
<Dex2x> yeah timedatectl is active with ntp, but it's 19 minutes behind, I had the same issue with normal debian on the N150
<Dex2x> I have to disable the ntp, then correct the time, and then re-enabled it
<Dex2x> oh and the date also never got corrected, had to do that by hand as well
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Not sure but I think some implementations refuse sync if the discrepancy between actual time and system time is too big. That needs manual adjustment to come closer to reality
<Dex2x> That could be, not sure if 5 days is too big, but it's a bit annoying.
<Dex2x> But... got it up and running, updated, and now back to starting kernel :/ I wonder if it's the loader or something that is going wrong here, or the spi
<Dex2x> Well I found the issue "Timed out waiting for reply from 10.12.0.20:123" looks like the default server has some issue
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Set verbosity to 7 so see what actually happens after starting kernel.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> I have no idea why a ntp server in a private IP range is set
coldfeet has joined #armbian
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> shouldn't ntp servers be defined as hostnames and resolved through DNS?
<Dex2x> could be my ISP doing something odd. But I am not sure what the default dns name is that it is going for
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> There are tons of free ntp servers available public, just Google for it
<Dex2x> @Werner also good stop, I didn't even see the private IP, my ISP's ntp seems to have issues, so I told my router to ignore the client ntp
<Dex2x> Hopefully this will fix a lot of issues
<Dex2x> Okay verbosity at 7, output halts at random: crng init done https://bpa.st/YFRQ
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> I suggest to try vendor or edge kernel and also flash matching uboot

<Dex2x> oh dam, that is new "[ end Kernel panic - not syncing: Asynchronous SError Interrupt ]"
<Dex2x> I wonder if I need to use a vendor image
axochitl has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
axochitl has joined #armbian
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> As far as I can tell vendor just works... or should, did not test recent versions
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Hm I wonder if the fixed HDMI patched messed up current. Need to test later
<Dex2x> I think I need a new SDcard reader, I know this one I have is ancient, but I can't think I just killed two cards, one that is 1 day old
<Dex2x> Ah man, I wish I saw the deloy image section before Thursday, I just got two A2 rated cards :(
<Dex2x> This is odd, just flashed the iso again, set the verbosity to 7, and yet that seems ignored
<Dex2x> Ohj it took a while but booting now, I think that is the sdcard partition growing that takes a bit
Hokedli has quit [Quit: Konversation terminated!]
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Probably. First boot always takes longer
<Dex2x> hmmm 6.12 kernel is crashing. So does that mean that the current debian image is no good ?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Crash log?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> For desktop I suggest vendor or edge kernel. Current is good enough for servera application only
<Dex2x> https://bpa.st/WB4Q I am just going for minimal
<Dex2x> I didn't want the ubuntu based, that is 6.1, the only debian for the opi 5, is 6.12, and that is now crashing on brand new boot
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> I bet I did a poor job fixing the HDMI patch. I'll check that later
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Use the framework to build an image with components of your choice if no pre-made image is available.
<Dex2x> Have not tried that yet, figured this board has standard support, and it's the ultra, so it should go better :p
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> oPi5 has better support than max/ultra variants iirc
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> mine runs absolutely fine on vendor kernel with debian 12 + Pxvirt
<Dex2x> well the current debian minimal 6.12, just panics :D
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Yeah and I think that's my fault 😅
<Dex2x> Well... I think I erased my vendor install as well by accident, so double oops ? :D
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> i had many issues with current/edge, but vendor (6.1) has been rock solid tbh
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Drop the patch mentioned here and rebuild
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> I'm not sure at home
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> I'm not at home
<Dex2x> @menu with which board? my op6 ultra, works with edge, really well
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> oPi 5, standard non-variant
<Dex2x> ah okay same as me then
<Dex2x> opi5 ultra ** , I have the opi 5 standard as well

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> I noticed the broken patch has already been dropped 20h ago
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> yes. remove /etc/sources.d/cli* something
<Dex2x> I am going to try convert my vendor install, to armbian, by adding the armbian sources and seeing if I can test the 6.15 edge kernel
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Why not simply building an Armbian images with latest edge by yourself? Probably easier than messing with two OS merging together
nodelay has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<Dex2x> hmmm guess I can give that a go
agl has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds]
<Dex2x> @menu have you tried to get a fan working with the GPIO ?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> Dex2x: no, GPIO can't source/sink enough current, i run my fan directly off the 5V pin - fan pitch is inversely proportional to system load so i can at least hear when it's bogging down
<Dex2x> Now that is interesting, but a constant on fan would drive me nuts
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> it's under the TV cabinet in the living room, the mother in law can't hear it, win-win for me
wd has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> So yeah, current seems broken on opi5. Though not entirely my fault since with the patch removed entirely the boot freezes at crng init done. So there is something else
wd has joined #armbian
<Dex2x> Okay so bad idea to build?
<Dex2x> I have everything ready, just not sure if I need to target a branch ?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> If you build _vendor_ or _edge_ it should be fine. _current_ has issues
<Dex2x> Do I need to build it from a device? I am trying from my desktop with the compile.sh, but it fails complaining about arm64 not supported
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> requirements are listed in documentation
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> docs.armbian.com
<Dex2x> I have all of that
<Dex2x> was missing qemu-user-static, build on arch, so the compile requirements don't work
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> We had a couple of reports lately that this package is for reasons yet to be determined not installed automatically.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> So yes, thats the fix
<Dex2x> One forum post mentioned this, and I recall using that to chroot into a pervious install. So I just added that, but that script is setup for ubuntu/debian, so would not have worked on a pacman system
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> It should work on most distros if Docker is installed and accessible by user
<Dex2x> hmmm odd, well docker is present.
<Dex2x> okay all these flags are going to make my head spin :D
<Dex2x> Ncurses for all that, geez well done for this build framework
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Advanced users don't use the cli usually anymore since they just know all the switches are faster typing 😄

<Dex2x> Oh I went full.. but will save that
<Dex2x> Good way to keep 24 threads busy
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> compiling will keep them busy, git stuff doesn't use much multithreading I think
<Dex2x> Last time I compiled a kernel, using -j > 8 made it fail
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Cannot tell what that cause was. But Armbian is using, if a compilation is ncecessary due to absence of matching artifact, one and a half times the amount of cpu threads available.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> If 4C/8T it will use -j12
<Dex2x> I have 12c/24t , and all 24T are busy right now
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> I'm still atempting to fix current
<Dex2x> :D

<Dex2x> There is currently no A2 support for SD cards right? I had a SanDisk high Endurance V30 in previously, and now I have the Sandisk Extreme V30, but A2, and wow this opi5 reboots just as fast as my ultra with it's emmc
<Dex2x> its faster than the high endurance that is for sure
<Dex2x> the initial boot as well.
coldfeet has quit [Quit: Lost terminal]
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> I wouldn't worry too much about it. Some boards, especially older ones, were picky about sd cards but as for me, I never had an issue with any sd card
<Dex2x> well I was speaking more to this https://github.com/ThomasKaiser/Knowledge/blob/master/articles/A1_and_A2_rated_SD_cards.md, there is no driver support for the A2
<Dex2x> but it seems a lot faster than the high endurance. Even if there is no full driver
