<Hammdist88> hey all. I am mega pissed here because I can't find a usb adapter to work with my rpi5. I have previously used tplink archer t2u plus for this but when I bought the last one I got a different chipset than previously and it crashes after a few minutes of working despite having compiled the latest and bestest out of tree module for it. this is after
<Hammdist88> failing to get a mercusys adapter working. where I can find adapter that works properly?
<Hammdist88> sorry I should have mentioned my need for a usb -wifi- adapter

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> hammdist88: half of those https://docs.armbian.com/WifiPerformance/ are USB
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> it's not sorted by connection type, but picture tells
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> those that are crashing are not on the list, but also those which are, can break in the future. And we can't fix this in real-time nor promise to fix

<Hammdist1> igorpec: I just need it to work today. when it breaks I will look for another adapter. however the page you linked doesn't list products, it only lists chipsets. it seems a lot of research is required to find a product that is available in the country I am in that has a specific chipset as the chipset isn't listed on the product pages

<Hammdist> ah. the adapter I had last time that was working was likely a t3u plus, not a t2u plus. this was missed because these adapters do not bother to include the model number in the usb descriptor. I will try to order again the t3u maybe that will work

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> Hammdist: chipset is always the key. There are so many products behind particular chip and that is impossible to track by their commercial names. Providing tested adaptors is already very expensive and, I am aware, provide limited but still helpful information. Based on chip you can find a product that uses it and they all work the same. More info you can find here https://github <clipped message>
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <igorpec> .com/morrownr/USB-WiFi and that's more or less it - for USB wifi on Linux. People that operates those projects saved weeks of research, but they can't provide professional service "I need this to work today / it must work / tell me which / which is chepest and where" in exchange for ... nothing / "thank you" / beer. All our automation was made voluntarily and 90% of hardware was <clipped message>

<Hammdist> sure, I understand. when I said today I meant not needing guarantees for continued working with future updates, not that the solution should literally work today. maybe you can link the morrownr USB-WiFi page from the Armbian Wifi Performance page as I was not aware of this apparently critical resource until now. I just knew that some driver code was hosted by morrownr; wasn't aware of that additional
<Hammdist> repository with general documentation and recommendations.
