my rpi5 used to run fine with a certain usb hub and set of usb devices plugged in. now it reboots frequently. can this be due to overcurrent? why would I suddenly get overcurrent when it used to work? ambient temps have risen recently here. when I use a powered hub there are no problems

[Discord] <random_anon_cesar> Possibly the power supply is on its way out?

[Discord] <tomurlings> yes, some components are prone to wear and tear, like some types of electrolytic capacitors or even (bad) solder that can crack due to thermal cycling, etc.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <johnthecoolingfan> ok after watching some videos it seems I do like it, but migrating to it would be *a pain*
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <johnthecoolingfan> And will probably make me drop all support on anything gentoo-related I've ever made
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <johnthecoolingfan> So... Just wait until I fuck up my root volume again
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <menu> migrating is hell, but once you're in, spinning up a new machine is as simple as adding a new machine definition to your flake, deciding what you want on it, and running a single rebuild command
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <johnthecoolingfan> the ideas at the back of my head/backlog largely outnumber the things I am implementing
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <johnthecoolingfan> The idea is dreadful and I don't know of a proper way to deal with it.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <johnthecoolingfan> I only have a PC why woudl I need to spin up anotehr machine
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <johnthecoolingfan> I only have a PC, why would I need to spin up another machine?..
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <johnthecoolingfan> I do like the "single config file" approach even for configuring things like user groups. WOuld save me from the "why is my user in teh input group?" and similar questions

[Discord] <menu> VMs? routers? SBCs?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <johnthecoolingfan> I don't use VMs, my router can only run openwrt because of how simpel it is, and all my SBCs are different so teh images will still be different and teh machiens themself will do different things

[Discord] <johnthecoolingfan> So uhh... maybe nix on vms when and if I do use them, and armbian on SBCs
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <johnthecoolingfan> I do want soemthing else than debian or ubuntu for the base of armbian just for the sake of fresher packages, which is why I also wanted to port armbian patches to gentoo in some way

[Discord] <menu> Nix *is* the freshest package repo, and can build images for different boards, even from the same config
