[Discord] <wiisoldier> Hello all,
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> I had no idea where to introduce myself, so I decided on this channel.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> I am a long time Linux user and now help to develop for a couple of Retro computer sites, the main one of which is AmiKit for Amiga based on both x86/Linux/Debian and Arm/RPi/Debian.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> When AmiKit was updated from arch/Manjaro on the RPi a few years back, I was the creator for the new Debian version and I continue to support and update it.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> When I made the change from arch/Manjaro to Debian with AmiKit, I really considered using Armbian as the base OS as I liked (and still do like) the wonderful base image that you create. However for simplicity, at the time, I developed the OS using the RaspberryPi/Debian12 base image. This was chosen as most users were using the RPi4/5 and the already had a knowledge of the Raspian OS.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> Recently, I have looked at developing more on Orange Pi (both RK3588 and Risc-v / RV2), and the base image for the Orange Pi zero 3 and the OPi5B are superb with Armbian. I must thank you all for creating such great versions. 🙂 as they avoid the clumsy repos that Orange Pi insist on using (there are also, maybe, some other nasties included on that OS).
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> I must say that the number of boards / SBCs that you create Armbian for is truely impressive and I doff my hat to you all. I would like to develop more on other boards, but the usual financial restraints are holding me back.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> So where is this intro going? Just a few questions really:
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> Will you develop Armbian for the Orange Pi RV2? and
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> Are you aware of an issue with this image:
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> (I know it is still in testing, but the boot sequence loops and requests the same info over and over. tested on RPi4 and RPi5)
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> Is there a reason you don't add the Raspberry Pi repos to the RPi images? I am guessing the answer is yes, however when I add the RPi repos I don't get any fails or issues.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> Thanks in advance for any replies, and none of the questions are meant as a protest against Armbian. As I said above, I really like it and it works great on the boards that I can test on. Sorry to sound like a "bit of a noob", but where else does one start?

[Discord] <tenkawa42> Have you ran any emu/gpu testing on the Orange Pi RV2? I have the bigger K1 and the problem right now with almost all of the RISC-V units is the graphics performance.

<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> Not tested the RV2 yet, the board has yet to arrive. I ordered it two weeks ago. 🙂

[Discord] <tenkawa42> I would encourage you to try a vendor image and test the gpu first...
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> Will do, thanks for the advice. 🫶
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <tenkawa42> RISC-V still needs a lot of development.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <tenkawa42> I have several different units here at the moment.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> I realise that. so this is my first foray into risc-v
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <tenkawa42> Ah. Yeah I've been working on it for a few years
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> I will appreciate your input when i get mine. Thanks.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <tenkawa42> My best board (In my opinion) is the Banana PI BPI-F3
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <tenkawa42> 90%+ of what I do though is ARM
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> Yep, I mostly work on ARM / RPi boards. However I need to work on x86 for the AmiKit updates too.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> BTW, this is the issue with the Armbian_25.5.1_Rpi4b_trixie_current_6.12.32_minimal.img.xz
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <tenkawa42> trixie/testing images might not get much supprt *but don't quote me" I would advise staying away from it unless you really need it...

<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> I only tested it because Trixie is just two days awat from official launch.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> I only tested it because Trixie is just two days away from official launch.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <tenkawa42> Yeah but after that I would give third party distros at "least" 1-3 weeks to work out their transition
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> Agreed, even RPi OS will still be working on a final version.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <tenkawa42> Indeed
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <tenkawa42> I spend most of my time on FreeBSD now...
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <tenkawa42> (I was a FreeBSD admin though for years as a job)
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> Oh, you will get along with another developer on AmiKit. He works with FreeBSD everyday.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> He just created Amiberry for FreeBSD with JIT support.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <tenkawa42> nice.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> His next task is to recreate it on MAC OS. A big task. 😎

[Discord] <mecoblock> Are we replacing debian 12 with debian 13 for the next release @igorpec ? Apparently tomorrow is the official release date
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> We could. And perhaps leave bookworm minimal too.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> Seems reasonable to me
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> You know which file needs changes?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> Probably
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> Btw why did installing home assistant via armbian-config delete my openemediavault installation and docker daemon config
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> This seems very unintended
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> Module docker seems to very flawed rn

There seems to be a problem changing IP address with armbian-config, Armbian 25.5.1 stable 6.12.35-current-sunxi64 (Debian bookworm)
<yang>
it doesn't get applied
<yang>
old IP remains, even though i tried to change
Mangix has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<yang>
same error, on another SBC

that is armbian-config 25.8.0-trunk.380.0718.155006
<yang>
"nmtui" would probably work, but I got stuck on "apply change"
<yang>
should of done it over serial, not ssh
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> yang: can you me more specific - which image, minimal, server or desktop
<yang>
nmtui worked after repowering , PINE64
<yang>
I ran apt upgrade on it, then tried to change the IP, it's not from the new build - v25.5.1 for Pine64 running Armbian Linux 6.12.35-current-sunxi64

I'll test bananapi and try the same thing, then report
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> this removed fallback dhcp configuration
<yang>
ok
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> it actually should have two ip addresses when seting it via armbian-config
<yang>
on the new image of bananapi?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> yes, on any image
<yang>
ok
<yang>
With Bananapi trixie image, I see Uboot screen 2024.1, then it writes "booting the kernel" and after that it's a black picture on the mini screen. There could be a problem with insufficient power to power the keyboard + HDMI, dunno. I will wait another 10 minutes if the picture comes back
<yang>
That is Bananapi M1
<yang>
and minimal iot image
<yang>
website says Build Date: Nov 24, 2024
<yang>
still black screen
<yang>
I'll try Bookworm XFCE build

[Discord] <igorpec> those are very old images
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> this and one desktop, noble perhaps
<yang>
writing to SD card goes only at 4MB/s
<yang>
so it takes some time, before I test
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> oh, why so slow?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <igorpec> xfce image is uploading, will be up soon. anyway, post resoults here. i will check them later ... i hope things generally works
