[Discord] <random_anon_cesar> If you're running the mainline kernel, I recommend the following after modifying /etc/apt/sources.list and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/armbian.list
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> yeah was just me not knowing there was an armbian list
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> a bit frustrated because i'm sick and every debian thing i've updated so far has produced some kind of drama, and now i'm finding out debian 13 removed 32 bit support so i have to push my older machine off onto either arch32, void or forego linux completely and go netbsd
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <c0rnelius77> bookworm EOL is June 10th 2028. You gots time.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <c0rnelius77> Next release is removing armel support I hear.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <c0rnelius77> Basically units like the original rpi-zero and anything alike will no longer be supported.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> i wonder what will happen then because i have an original zero
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <c0rnelius77> My guess. The RPi Foundation will find a way to keep it going.
laz0r has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> prolly
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> Same as if you still use a horse instead of a car for transport. You will use a different base fuel. Hay instead of petrol.
laz0r has joined #armbian
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <c0rnelius77> Even armv7 at this point is border line pointless. arm64 or riscv is really the way to go forward I think.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <random_anon_cesar> Speaking of dropped support, the new version of APT in Trixie confirms that SHA-1 signing keys for repos will not be considered as secure effective Feb-01-2026
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> someone in the deb discord told me what to add and this fixed it
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> kinda surprised it didn't do this on its own
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> then again updating debian did break my website because apache tried to load an old version of php and deb also overwrote my smb.conf on my nas so who knows
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> kinda funny that arch has been more stable for me over the last 4 years than deb has
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> I like Debian. But I always test any updates on a VM first.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> prolly wouldn't have done me any good seeing how random the issues have been
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> even though they're all set up about the same
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> Arch is usually a "rolling release".
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> yeah and people often joke about how unstable it is but i really haven't had any issues
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> very rare occasional minor issue but usually its an issue with a specific piece of software and not something with arch itself, and if there is an issue with arch itself then there's usually a post made on the news feed (very rare)
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> And others wpuld say they never get issues with Debian. It is just a matter of choice and usage. Each to their own π
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> And others would say they never get issues with Debian. It is just a matter of choice and usage. Each to their own π
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> speaking of news posts
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> doubt anyone would be exploding him
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> I only update if I need a specific package to do something. Otherwise I keep the OS stable. Maybe that's just me being old-fashioned. π
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> pretty much how i do deb
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> with arch you'll wanna stay somewhat up to date otherwise things will break
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lands39> if you don't update for a year its not impossible to do so, just a pain
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <wiisoldier> And with Debian you keep things "as they were" and stable. Each to their own. π«Ά
