<midfavila>
am doing good
<midfavila>
finally got the last bit of my drivetrain figured out
<midfavila>
i've decided i love my bike as a singlespeed
<midfavila>
it's so zippy and nimble now
<midfavila>
way better than as a seven-speed
<midfavila>
man i love bicycles
<midfavila>
they're so awesome
<midfavila>
isn't it kind of crazy that you can just get on one and go
<sad_plan>
I have a bike from 1932, and 1962. theyre pretty cool. the oldest one needs some work to be able to use though
<midfavila>
put a motor on the 30s one
<midfavila>
:3c
<midfavila>
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
<sad_plan>
bikes can be cool, but I have a car, so bikes isnt really needed for me tbh. theyre also terrible to ride on, compared to a more modern bike, made for anything but flat distances
<sad_plan>
lol, that couldve been cool
<midfavila>
idk if you travel for work i can see a car being useful but
<midfavila>
my life would be so miserable if i had a car
<midfavila>
just from the social interaction i would miss out on
<sad_plan>
how so?
<sad_plan>
oh
<midfavila>
even ignoring like
<midfavila>
the thousands of dollars a year in licencing and fees and parking and gas and maintenance
<midfavila>
and the inconveniece of like
<midfavila>
actually finding a parking spot
<midfavila>
not to mention sitting in traffic
<midfavila>
plus it's not like there's anything i can't do on a bike that a car coudl
<midfavila>
could*
<sad_plan>
luckily I dont have any of those issues. I got just shy of 10 minutes to drive to work. never any traffic
<midfavila>
fair
<sad_plan>
I could also walk, but it takes ~40 minutes or so. depending on the route I take
<midfavila>
oh that's not bad
<midfavila>
you could also cycle
<midfavila>
>w>
<sad_plan>
I could, but home is just uphill. which kinda sucks
<midfavila>
yeah but also consider that you would get enormous thighs after a year of doing that
<midfavila>
stronk
<sad_plan>
lol, yeah
<midfavila>
and then that makes everything else easier :D
<midfavila>
i used to be terrified of uphills and now unless it's like, a serious incline, i don't even need other gears
<midfavila>
i can put out enough torque that it doesn't make a difference to me
<sad_plan>
I know. ive been doing some moves to strengthen my body for some weeks now, and around home, theres some areas for walking where theres some really steep uphill. usually Im tired as heck going up those, but now, not so much.
<midfavila>
see?
<midfavila>
:3
<sad_plan>
it felt really great noticing that really
<sad_plan>
yah
<midfavila>
is good for you
<midfavila>
now you can pick up the slightly heavier thing
<midfavila>
and walk slightly farther
<midfavila>
and not fall asleep halfway through the day
<midfavila>
is good
* midfavila
nods sagely
<sad_plan>
i knoow. I do try to take walks aswell, but im still struggling with doing it on some regular basis. mostly because of work
<sad_plan>
yeah
<midfavila>
thats why you should cycle!!!
<midfavila>
then you get your cardio just from commuting
<midfavila>
i always feel so shitty in winter because my cycling is how i get most of my exercise
<sad_plan>
i know. i told myself I should start that when we moved closer to town, but i never really did that. ive waled to work.. once
<midfavila>
and my city doesn't treat pathways as actual infrasructure unlike roads
<midfavila>
sad_plan i am giving you a challenge
<midfavila>
cycle to work on monday
<midfavila>
:3c
<midfavila>
do it
<midfavila>
i'm peer pressuring you which means you have to
<sad_plan>
Im not going to work on monday. got the whole week off :D
<midfavila>
well aren't you lucky
<midfavila>
next day the
<midfavila>
then
<midfavila>
having the week off gives you time to get the bike ready
* midfavila
nods
<midfavila>
if you can walk it in 40 minutes i doubt it's more than 5km
<sad_plan>
yeah, I work.. wtf is it called in english again.. we just call it 5 shift... hmm
<sad_plan>
well sure, but I kinda like walking instead of biking tbh
<sad_plan>
sounds about right
<midfavila>
sounds like week-on week-off
<midfavila>
and i mean if you prefer walking that's fair too
<midfavila>
i used to work with someone who would walk the 15km or so from her place to our workplace
<sad_plan>
yeah kinda, we have 5 weeks which goes round and round, and I have 2 weeks off with weeks on, one off, one on, and on off again
<sad_plan>
i wrecked the last part. its 2 on, 1 off, 1 on, 1 off, and round again
<sad_plan>
sounds like she liked to walk. unless she had no other choice
<midfavila>
nah she liked to
<midfavila>
i tried to get her to cycle as well because that's a lot of walking
<midfavila>
esp considering the job was also on-foot
<midfavila>
but she was super adamant
<sad_plan>
she mustve worn through a lot of shoes in a year
<midfavila>
yeah
* midfavila
shrugs
<midfavila>
to each their own
<sad_plan>
yeah
<kris_>
bicycle uphill is so hard
<midfavila>
kris_: squats and milk
<midfavila>
milk and squats
<midfavila>
pump
<midfavila>
that
<midfavila>
iron
<sad_plan>
and squats & squats, + milk & milk
<midfavila>
yes
<midfavila>
drink at least a gallon of milk a day
<midfavila>
whole milk
<kris_>
ewwie
<midfavila>
get the funnel sad_plan
<sad_plan>
already on it
<midfavila>
>:D
<kris_>
:gun:
<kris_>
funnels are wild
* midfavila
flying reverse roundhouse kicks the gun out of kris_'s hand
<midfavila>
your constitutional rights hold no power here
<kris_>
you'll have to get close enough to do that first
<sad_plan>
kris_: arent they fun(nels)? C:
<midfavila>
implying you could stop me with one bullet
<kris_>
one??
<kris_>
i got at least one and a half
<kris_>
we call that one The Flying Wisconsin
<sad_plan>
> half bullet
<sad_plan>
nice
<kris_>
i did say at least
<sad_plan>
lol
<kris_>
c:
<midfavila>
idk man i tanked a car to the back at 50km an hour and walked away with nothing but a bruise so
* midfavila
rolls up his sleeves
<midfavila>
fisticuffs it is
<midfavila>
pow pow
<kris_>
i am more aerodynamic than you
<midfavila>
i have a bicycle
<kris_>
i would say i could run faster but my knees are destroyed
<kris_>
so i got maybe 10 feet in me before i have to stop
<midfavila>
gonna do wheelies around you
<sad_plan>
mids glasses will magnify his speed x3, so no kris_
<midfavila>
like those shark formations
<kris_>
vaguely threatening
<midfavila>
gonna get a cane so i can sweep your legs out from you and laugh as i ride off into the sunset
<midfavila>
>:D
<sad_plan>
lol
<midfavila>
just be an antisocial menace
<sad_plan>
anyway, time to pack up my laptop, and go home and sleep. nightnight
<kris_>
gn
<midfavila>
nini sad_plan
<kris_>

<kris_>

chat does anyone know what i've missed? trying an install right now and i've been able to build a kernel (having done it a few times before), including the vega10 firmware i need for my gpu, and also with efifb, vesa/vga support and simple fb support as a fallback. fbcon support is also enabled, but after grub i only get a black screen. grub was
<Guest14>
built with no cflags to avoid the bootloop and the kernel was built with -os over -o2. amdgpu is also enabled, and everything else i have enabled is baked in, and not modularised. thx
Guest14 has quit [Quit: Client closed]
<kiedtl>
Guest14 in case you read logs, there are some flags you have to enable to get the kernel to actually use the framebuffer for some reason.
<kiedtl>
...unfortunately I don't remember what they are, lol.
<kiedtl>
I think CONFIG_DRM_CLIENT_LOG needs to be unset, but there's more I'm missing

asimov: okay just apply it
<asimov>
i mean
<asimov>
an update for the patch
<asimov>
simple dont work if you just remade it for latest git
<sad_plan>
kiedtl: youre free to create a patch for the community wiki. just send them to phoebos and he'll apply them
<kiedtl>
yeah I might do that
<kiedtl>
At some point we've got to stop calling the old site the "official" site
<kiedtl>
lol
<sad_plan>
but it is the official site. this is kinda how dylan wanted it. to make a more clear distiction of kiss linux, and kiss community linux. more or less
<kiedtl>
kiss community is the official continuation of kiss linux though
<kiedtl>
from the outside it's just confusing imho
<kiedtl>
I mean, it'd make sense if there was a chance Dylan would come back, but I strongly doubt that'd happen
<sad_plan>
dylan wanted it this way, and because of that, we have to make a clear distinction. i know its confusing, but it is what it is. cant really do much about it
<kiedtl>
it's a small issue either way. not like we're getting many new users to begin with :p
<kiedtl>
sad_plan that's the issue. dylan isn't here and the old project is slowly succumbing to bitrot and divergence from the maintained version of the package manager. it's irrelevant imo, all we can do is use dylan's guidestones and philosophy to move forward as best we can
<sad_plan>
what could perhaps be somwhat helpfull, would be if dylan pointed users to kiss community, as an unoffical maintained place for users to go to, because of dylans choices
<sad_plan>
I dont really think theres too much divergance here. most people either run their own, which is by design, or follow w/e works sufficently as an upstream, which atm is kiss community
* kiedtl
shrugs
<asimov>
disagree
<asimov>
kiss is fragmented
<sad_plan>
kiss is supposed to be fragmented, its by design. thus its not really fragmented
<asimov>
thats the main problem about kiss
<asimov>
we dont have officially doc
<asimov>
or either official repo
<asimov>
all is just search web and find what suites to you
<sad_plan>
we do have official doc and repo. theyre just arhived. for anything unoffical, its kiss-community. if you find the unoffical wiki to be lacking, id say, make a patch to fix w/e you think is lacking
