Hi
<Vova>
mdev or mdevd or udev ?
<Vova>
I know shit about how modules work on linux, but I need to auto "modprobe" the module for my lan card, when the usb gets plugged in, is there a way to tell mdev(d) to load the module r8152 when the usb XXXX gets plugged in ?

lucky

Vova, why not always load the module at startup?
fitrh has joined #kisslinux
<Vova>
because the module is for a USB hub (Ethernet thing) and I often travel and use other hubs so I'd like to only load the corresponding modules when A or B or C hub are connected
<Vova>
What do you use for audio stuff ? pipewire ? alsa ? sndio ?
<Vova>
Also I remember there was sway-no-seat a few years back, not it seems gone, and there's no seatd (not a big deal to package), so what are you all using wm wise ?
<kiedtl>
seatd exists, it's called libseat I think
<kiedtl>
wrt modules I don't really see the benefit to keeping modules unloaded. It's not like it's going to hog memory or other resources, and I don't think it causes conflicts? Am I missing something here?
<Vova>
Nah I'm just being picky
<Vova>
I ended up just enabling it directly in the kernel
