<midfavila> sad_plan: it's because i'm a fluffy gote uwu~
<midfavila> i'm way better at dealing with the cold than the heat
<midfavila> anything above 15C and I just fucking die
<midfavila> i would take -50 over +20 or +30
<midfavila> ez
<midfavila> ALSO I GOT THE NEW GRAPHICS CARD TODAY >:OOOOOOOOOOOOOO
DetourNe- is now known as DetourNetworkUK
<midfavila> i had to hammer the fuck out of my PC's case to get it in but IT'S IN and IT WORKS and that's what matters
<midfavila> chadbsd: prices are made up
<midfavila> you can just build more houses
<midfavila> and apartments
<midfavila> the notion that people should just not 'consume' housing because it's too expensive is sadistic
<midfavila> people ought to be allowed to live where they please
<midfavila> it should be the job of government to ensure that that's possible
<midfavila> i kind of want to go get a nanaimo bar to celebrate the gpu...
<kris_> midfavila: what gpu did you get
<midfavila> arguing w/ this guy on the internet to kill time at work about housing costs and he literally just said that if you want a house you should 'just have savings'
<midfavila> lmfao
<midfavila> direct quote
<midfavila> kris_: 8gb rtx 2070
<midfavila> for like 150cad
<kris_> rip musl
<midfavila> on slackware
<kris_> do you use current or stable
<midfavila> stable
<midfavila> 15
<sad_plan> midfavila: I can agree with you about temperatures. my argument would be pretty easy, as you can dress for the cold, but dressing for heat gets mostly impossible above a certain limit
<midfavila> yeah
<kris_> cold > heat
<kris_> all day
<sad_plan> kris_: nvidia cards work just fine on musl
<sad_plan> also, I like hotter tempes, but not too hot. I like using shorts instead of pants and not having to bring a hoodie.
<kris_> sad_plan: since when
<kris_> nvidia doesnt do driver builds for musl
<sad_plan> but as everyone else, I dont like sweating at the sight of doing anything above sitting still lol
<kris_> unless you're using nouveau or something
<sad_plan> foss ones works kris
<kris_> which i dont think works fine
<sad_plan> yes
<kris_> nvk?
<kris_> arent you losing like 30% of your performance by doing that with nvk
<midfavila> sad_plan: just roll up ur pantlegs
<midfavila> ez
<kris_> or almost all of it + a ton of bugs with modern nvidia gpus if just noveau
<sad_plan> they do. I even used them unknowingly. I couldnve sworn I used the proprietary ones
<midfavila> shorts are bloat
<sad_plan> midfavila: lol
<midfavila> srsly
<kris_> i wanna get some of those kickass pants that have zippers
<sad_plan> kris_: nouvoeu ones is the ones I used
<kris_> so you unzip the leg
<kris_> and then have shorts
<midfavila> they suck
<midfavila> i've owned a few pairs
<midfavila> just get proper pants and proper shorts if you're going to be like that
<kris_> sad_plan: i have also used nouveau in the past and it's absolutely not something i can take seriously
<kris_> it only works well for like gtx 700 nvidia gpus and older
<kris_> newer ones it cant even upclock
<sad_plan> kris_: dunno about that 30% loss. I always hammer down the fps regardless of game. I dont want my fans sounding like windturbine when I play games, so if anything, I just havent noticed it because of this
<kris_> nouveau = piss poor or no fan control on nvidia gpus
<sad_plan> for me it works out of the box. dont care much for the fancurve. dont got the software to change it anyway, so meh
<kris_> iirc things have improved a bit recently since an nvidia employee got permission to contribute to nouveau but i honestly dont know
<sad_plan> non-issue for me
<sad_plan> phoronix or whoever it was did an artiche about it a while back stating they were almost identical about performance now
<sad_plan> I also used chimera for some time, and when I switched to nobara and then cachyOS, I cant say I noticed any difference
<sad_plan> my only complaint was that I couldnt see the temp on my gpu, because nouveou doesnt support it atm
<sad_plan> or atleast did not when I checked
<kris_> the most recent benchmarks i found with an initial search are a year old and it definitely doesnt seem like it works well with an rtx 3090
<kris_> like it does work
<kris_> it can run games
<kris_> but i feel like if you pay for a gpu you should have 100% of that gpu
<sad_plan> I agree
<kris_> im glad it seems to have improved a lot since like 2022 at least
<kris_> i paid like $980 for a 6700xt back then during the peak of a mining craze because i couldnt cope with having an nvidia gpu anymore
<kris_> it was actively problematic
<kris_> little did i know, had i waited 2 months that same gpu would have been like $300
<sad_plan> I get that. even gaming on linux has taken a really huge leap these past few years, which is nice. theres not a huge list of games ive simply not been able to play on linux yet, which still impresses me
<kris_> some games i used to play on linux will no longer work
<kris_> battlefield 1, apex legends, gta 5
<kris_> feelsbad
<sad_plan> im guessing the online part is what does not work, right?
<kris_> yeah dumb anticheat nonsense
<sad_plan> right. just play singleplayer instead, no need to waste your time with online stuff. but maybe thats just my inner loner speaking
<kris_> i only play online games for the most part
<sad_plan> I used to play games online on my 360 when I was a teen
<kris_> dayz, counterstrike, world of warcraft these days
<sad_plan> but as ive grown older, I never do
<kris_> and cod mw2 2009 ofc
<kris_> though i dont play official WoW, i play on a private server
<sad_plan> ive been wanting to play dayz, but its online only, and I dont care for paying for it, only to play with other stupid people I dont wanna deal with
<kris_> i highly recommend it
<kris_> its great with other people, that's a fundamental part of the game
<kris_> step out of your shell man i'll play with you
<kris_> i play on european servers only because i find american dayz players insufferable, not sure if that matters to you
<sad_plan> I get that
<sad_plan> I have no preference here really. I just dont really care much for online games, but sure, ill consider it. currently however I have a bajlion games on my list to play
<kris_> its also partially because i want to play on servers ran by a specific guy
<kris_> official dayz servers are overrun with cheaters and most other third party servers are really really ass for various reasons
<kris_> spaggies servers are good
<sad_plan> holy shit, its still expensive. still 589 NOK. thats like $55 or something
<kris_> it goes on sale for 20usd during the holiday
<kris_> its almost christmas so
<sad_plan> to be correct, its actually 57.95. which is insane for such an old game
<kris_> it's very worth that in my mind
<kris_> i also paid for the sakhal dlc which is by far my favorite map
<kris_> chernarus (the default) isnt great imo
<sad_plan> maybe ill add it to my watchlist, and if it comes on a sale, ill pick it up
<kris_> one of the biggest issues with dayz for me is that all of the signs in the game are in russian
<kris_> you can't change that
<kris_> so im sitting here trying to decypher ancient hieroglyphs to figure out where i am
<sad_plan> are, same with stalker games, and metro games
<sad_plan> I kinda hate it, but I also kinda get it. it makes sense, with where its placed
<kris_> i used to just play with a russian guy and he'd deal with navigating
<kris_> i havent spoken to him in forever though, kind of a dick but that's not here nor there
<kris_> theoretically once you've played enough you'll know where you are just based on how the area looks
<kris_> i havent reached that point yet, the maps are way too huge
<kris_> in a good way
<sad_plan> yeah, Im aware, I used to navigate gta like that. I didnt even need to look at the map eventually
<sad_plan> was dayz fps, or 3ps? I dont recall. ive playd arma 3, and it was ok.. Im not sure how I felt about arma 3 which I played earlier. is it anything like that? I mean, controlling wise. I found it to be somewhat iffy, I dont know how else to explain it really
<kris_> depends on the server
<kris_> some are third person and first person and you can toggle via keybind and others are first person only
<kris_> first person only is ideal imo because of the peeking around corners issue
<sad_plan> wym, peaking with 3ps is easyer because of the camera. atleast thats always how I felt
<kris_> the problem is people seeing you around corners without showing themselves to you
<kris_> seeing over/around things where you can't see them at all
<kris_> keep in mind dayz is extremely pvp heavy
<kris_> and its supposed to feel realistic
<sad_plan> which is what you can achive in third person, but not in first. because of the camera being higher up and further back. but maybe this is a dayz thing
<sad_plan> I like realistic. have you ever played insurgency?
<midfavila> kris_: is dayz pvp heavy or does it condition people into resorting to violence to solve their problems
<midfavila> idea for ur next philosophy paper
<sad_plan> its relentless.
<kris_> midfavila: its a video game man
<kris_> literally part of the point is pvp
<kris_> the fun comes from pvping
<kris_> sad_plan: i have not
<kris_> and my point is that i dont think its cool if people can see around walls without actually moving their player model out from behind cover
<sad_plan> wtf, for some reason, now I was actually able to build binutils with lto, which I was not able to do earlier. oasis' binutils does not build with lto ootb
<midfavila> kris_: or is that notion merely an expression of your social conditions as forced upon you by capitalism
<midfavila>
<sad_plan> kris_: you should though, atleast check it out if thats your jam
<sad_plan> I get that, but its posible in third person. kinda cheating, but meh
<kris_> no mid its literally just fun
<kris_> *why* i find that fun i have no idea, most people don't find dayz very fun
<midfavila> kris_: r u sure abt tht
<kris_> it feels like real survival
<kris_> its great
<midfavila> >says the city yank
<kris_> and its a game where you can realistically 1v5 in a fight
<kris_> unlike other things like counterstrike
<kris_> if you're good enough you can fight an entire squad entirely by yourself
<midfavila> realistically you're not going to win a 1v5 irl unless the 5 are total idiots
<midfavila> then again most people don't even know how to throw a punch so
<midfavila> ???
<kris_> i would hope you're not fighting 5 people with your fists in dayz
<kris_> i mean you can but ideally you have a gun
<midfavila> that would be realistic
<kris_> and just position yourself in an ideal way
<midfavila> fists i mean
<midfavila> not a gun
<kris_> this is a silly discussion
<kris_> sad_plan: ill look into it for sure
<midfavila> you're a silly discussoin
<kris_> and yes i consider third person cheating
<midfavila> discussion
<midfavila> ;2~iuhwiuh
<midfavila> fuck
<sad_plan> kris_: mind you ive only ever played the insurgency mod, not the other 2 official games. the mod however was at the very least relentless. its free if you got cs source or any of the other source games. seeing as its just a mod I mean
<sad_plan> which means you can get your feet wet in this, without paying for it anyhow
<kris_> i havent loaded up cs source in foreverrr
<kris_> i bought it to get missing assets for gmod back in the day
mcpc has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
mcpc has joined #kisslinux
<sad_plan> I see. never actually used gmod, but I recall seing lots of videos about it too. looked fun though
<sad_plan> I also dont recall when I actually played cs source either. I do recall playing some custom maps with a class mate years ago. it was fun. I liked playing gun game, on the simsons maps. they were really fun
<midfavila> kris_ the man versus kris_ the gamer
<kris_> midfavila: liking dayz isnt a result of capitalism man
<kris_> its just a good game
<sad_plan> almost everything is a result of capitalism
<sad_plan> unless its free indie games because dev enjoys it
<sad_plan> same with foss code I suppose
<sad_plan> but thats besides the point
<midfavila> see sad_plan gets it
<midfavila> why are you so against introspection about your social and material conditions kris_
<midfavila> your teacher would love it
<midfavila> are you playing the game,
<midfavila> or is the game playing you?
<midfavila> gamer or gamed?
<sad_plan> kinda reminds me of stallman tbh. if it aint free software, youre the one being used
<midfavila> see kris_ sad_plan gets it
<midfavila> apparently there's a really basic browser for the ESP32 that's been ported to the pocketmage
<midfavila> i wonder how hard it would be to port it to the wiphone
<midfavila> just something basic enough to get past a captive portal
<midfavila> also the diptyx is almost done funding >:O
<kris_> midfavila: im not against the introspection i just think its a connection between two things that doesn't actually exist
