<sad_plan> wasnt there a kiss-hook for ccache? I cant seem to find it. iirc, it enabled ccache for specific packages, as opposed to globally, which seems to give me 44% misses. which sounds too much
<midfavila> kris_ ur a certified sound appreciator right
<midfavila> what do you think of this album
<midfavila> i propose the entire album to be the new #kisslinux SotD
<midfavila> also i have to say i love how there's like an entire... idk "federation" of tiny ultra-minimalist distros now that all borrow from each other
<midfavila> kiss, sabotage, oasis, derive, etcetera all taking bits and pieces from each other and finding new ways to do things
<midfavila> wholesome internet frens moment
<kris_> midfavila: on initial listen i don't really like how this sounds
<kris_> tbh
<midfavila> darn
<kris_> also yeah there's a huge uptick in super minimalist distros recently
<kris_> im not really sure what's going on
<kris_> over summer i'm probably going to see if i can bang out something that works from kiss
<kris_> im getting itchy and feel like distrohopping on my desktop
<midfavila> probably at least partially a result of the general backlash against corporate and "big" tech
<kris_> and for whatever reason recently i've been driven by an insane desire to write my own replacements for things
<kris_> mostly just for fun
<kris_> i love NIHing solutions
<midfavila> he's becoming one of us
<midfavila> beginning to believe
<kris_> todays mini project was moving away from having sway start all of my stuff like pipewire and my keyring daemon and etc
<kris_> got it all started by runit
<kris_> so i can restart individual things instead of just restarting my window manager
<midfavila> does sway not have something equivalent to Xsession
<kris_> idk what xsession is
<kris_> but previously i just had "exec /usr/local/bin/pipewire-launcher" for example in my sway config
<midfavila> it's a shell script that sets up your X environment
<kris_> now i just have a runsvdir running as my user pointed at ~/.services
<midfavila> XDM and other display managers invoke it on login
<kris_> runsvdir started by sway
<kris_> so now i have all of the fancy runit sv commands for my user services
<midfavila> i always set my user services up in a respawn loop
<kris_> midfavila: idk, you can exec literally anything you want from your sway config so you could very easily just do that
<kris_> it just runs it with sh -c
<midfavila> oh okay fair enough
<midfavila> basically the same thing then
<kris_> but i wanted full blown service management for user services
<kris_> i might make sway a user service lol
<kris_> and just have my DM launch the runsvdir
<midfavila> whatever works
<kris_> this is the DM i'm using + tuigreet for the greeter
<midfavila> >r*st
<midfavila> hiss
<kris_> its fine
<midfavila> it uses JSON as a basis for ipc qwq
<midfavila> well i'm glad it works for you
<kris_> this is just the first thing that i found, i used to just log into a tty and "dbus-run-session -- sway"
<kris_> i just needed *something* there so i could down the service and have everything graphical immediately die
<kris_> as part of single gpu passthrough into a VM
<kris_> qemu hooks to kill my DM and then my graphics driver and then start the VM with my GPU attached

<kris_> ooo my rp2040 chip is here
<gentoouser1337> kris_: very cool
<midfavila> what are you gonna do with it?
<kris_> badwdsd
<midfavila> neat
<kris_> it will enable my ps3 superslim which has never had a CFW method until this project to run CFW
<kris_> which lets me do all sorts of wack shit like boot freebsd and gentoo and etc on it
<kris_> and overclock
<kris_> and not have to run the hen executor every time i boot up so i can play my "backed up copies" of games
<kris_> off the hdd
<kris_> i also bought another rp2040, the pi pico 2W
<kris_> that one is going to be used for: https://github.com/wiredopposite/OGX-Mini
<kris_> so i can connect my xbox controller to my ps3
<sad_plan> kris_: does ps3 also not have persistent jailbreak?
<sad_plan> ps4 doesnt, and neither does ps5
<sad_plan> not atm anyway
<kris_> the superslim didn't until about 6 months ago when badwdsd released
<kris_> first time it's been CFW'd
<kris_> until now, only select ps3 slims and phat models had persistent jb
<kris_> omg its adorable
<midfavila> back in *my* day we just used our ti-84s
<midfavila> as was the fashion back then
<kris_> smol
<sad_plan> hm. I didnt really know the ps3 had a superslim model either really. but nice to see the scene catching up with proper jb's
<sad_plan> so smol
<kris_> i should have everything i need to do this now
<kris_> just need to go through the docs like 20x because there are no video guides
<gentoouser1337> kris_: damn thats smol af
<kris_> yeah its tiny, im hoping i can find a good place to put it without having to dremel anything out of my ps3
<sad_plan> cant you just glue it somewhere on the case?
<kris_> i would prefer it be inside the console
<sad_plan> that was implied on my end
<kris_> o
<kris_> yeah maybe
<kris_> most people ive seen remove the bluray reader and put it where that used to be but i'm trying to avoid that
<sad_plan> seeing as its so small, I cant see why you shouldnt be able to
<sad_plan> I get that
<kris_> i hope the wire i got is fine, the guy isnt very specific about what gauge i should use for various things
<kris_> "DO NOT USE MAGNET WIRE FOR 3.3V/GND! USE SOMETHING THICK FOR POWER!"
<kris_> how thick tho
<sad_plan> lol, love when docs are vague
<kris_> i feel like what i got will be fine for both uses probably
<kris_> the issue is going to be that this is my second time soldering ever
<kris_> but i have a good iron and flux and everything else in preparation for this
<sad_plan> if you understand the concept, maybe view a couple videos about it, soldering isnt hard unless its something super tiny stuff. I soldered my speakers in a car I own. although this didnt have to look like anything. it just needed to work
<sad_plan> nice
<kris_> its pretty bad
<sad_plan> I have a really shitty one. I should probably get a new one instead, which doesnt suck donkey balls
<sad_plan> although I dont really solder much. I havent soldered since, and thats.. 10 years ago now? lol
<kris_> gonna have to do this
<kris_> i might just ask my fren to like sit with me on discord while im doing this and watch my camera if she's down
<kris_> given she has infinitely more experience with this
<midfavila> man the tangara is so nice and easy to work with
<midfavila> being able to just pull out the SD card and stick it in my laptop and rsync my music folders is so nice
<midfavila> much quicker than the USB option too
<kris_> oh you found it?
<midfavila> yeah it was at my other job lol
<midfavila> where i left it
<midfavila> what no sleep does to a mfer ig
<kris_> relatable
<kris_> i lose things and go hunting for them on a regular basis just to discover i can't find the item because i'm literally holding it in my hand
<sad_plan> midfavila: using rsync to sync your music is probably the best solution ive used so far. I think its better than syncthing too imo

<sad_plan> midfavila: it seems illiliti should be back any day now from his mastadon post https://fosstodon.org/@illiliti/114361592327930807
<sewn> yes
<sewn> i said so
<sewn> midfavila: dont use rsync its very slow
<sewn> try to stick to something that maximizes throughput
<sewn> hell, even use mpd with http-opus backend
<sewn> but if youre serverless then stick to literally anything but rsync
<sad_plan> sewn: , i know, and I verified what you said. not that I didnt belive you. I just happen to stumble upon it, so I wanted to put it out here
<sad_plan> why the hate on rsync? what do you use instead?
<sad_plan> I like rsync because I can verify checksums, times and delete files from dest if I want. i find it pretty neat
<sad_plan> but im always open to something simple thats an improvement
