<midfavila>
fortunately most of the other people who worked there have already found new jobs lol
<midfavila>
i'll probably apply for training
<midfavila>
i'm not going back to retail dude
<kris_>
yeah, you definitely shouldn't
<kris_>
retail is hell
<sad_plan>
thats atleast good though. would be really terrible for them if they didnt
<sad_plan>
also yes, retail is hell
<midfavila>
people say that no job is above anyone but that's bullshit
<midfavila>
retail is just adult babysitting
<midfavila>
minimum wage ain't enough to convince me to stand around and let manchildren et al screech at me about their sportsball tickets for sixteen hours a day again
<sad_plan>
if people were actually capable of behaving themselves properly, im sure retail would be less bad
<midfavila>
say it with me sad_plan
<sad_plan>
aside from the terrible pay, but here thats usually not the case. mostly its just the some terrible customers that ruins your day
<midfavila>
retail is basically one step up from being homeless
<midfavila>
i would honestly just take the dole before retail if given the choice
<midfavila>
at least then you don't have to spend 40+ hours a week getting yelled at and pushed around
<midfavila>
i've seen the wages that some of the nordic countries have, even for make-work jobs, and it's honestly crazy
<midfavila>
like in uhhhhh denmark i think it was that i looked at, you could get something like 28cad an hour as a cashier
<sad_plan>
that might be the case in canada, but here working retail isnt that bad. my mom has been working retail for maany years, and I dont see she complaining. appart from customers being stupid that is.
<midfavila>
and even with taxes at least you seem to get something out of it
<midfavila>
i can't even get a bike lane >.>
<sad_plan>
being a cashier at your regular food shop we have here is actually rather decent. a while back, it was less so, but thats more like.. i dunno, 20-30 years ago? back then it was kinda frowned upon in a sense if you worked as a cashier. but today? nah
<sad_plan>
dont know the numbers though, but I keep hearing the pay is rather fair
<midfavila>
do cashiers get to sit down in norway
<midfavila>
legitimate question
<sad_plan>
yep
<midfavila>
that's wild
<midfavila>
you get written up if you sit down or lean here
<sad_plan>
they have a chair behind the counter. some choose to stand, but the one I use, they usually just sit
<sad_plan>
thats more wild lol
<sad_plan>
i mean, who even cares if the cashier sits behind the counter if you get what you come for anyway? thats just silly
<midfavila>
It'S nOt PrOfEsSiOnAl
<midfavila>
If YoU hAvE tImE tO lEaN yOu HaVe TiMe To ClEaN
<sad_plan>
I wonder, if you turn that back around to the boss, do you just get fired for being rude or some shit?
<midfavila>
you can actually, yes
<midfavila>
insubordination
<sad_plan>
not supprised
<sad_plan>
thats such a stupid thing. telling your opinion should be fair game imo. i mean, free speech and all
<sad_plan>
but thats also being eroded away slowly
<midfavila>
free speech means protection from government retaliation when criticising the government
<midfavila>
also canada doesn't have freedom of speech, by design
<midfavila>
so null point
<sad_plan>
wtf. so if you say... i dunno, utter some super racist bs at a public place, while also explicitly stating that this is your opinion, youll get arrested? just as an example obviously..
<midfavila>
yes
<midfavila>
that's a serious criminal offence
<sad_plan>
thats wild
<midfavila>
eh i don't think so
<sad_plan>
here you would probably just get moved away from the scene, because youre making a scene and disturbing the peace, but you wouldnt get any penalty here, because your opinions is protected. even if they suck..
<midfavila>
you aren't permitted to incite hatred against groups in canada. there are even ongoing court cases iirc that religious belief doesn't exempt you from this
<midfavila>
well, groups based on protected status
<midfavila>
of course, in the real world, this is applied... *unevenly*
<midfavila>
based on the interests of the state in that particular moment
<midfavila>
but in *theory* it's fine
<sad_plan>
hm.. I see
