they say that if you look into a mirror at night in the darkness and say eva's name three times and spin around she'll appear in the mirror

I looked at how I could replace my keyboard yesterday. seeing as my keycaps springs are broken on some keys. I found a new keyboard for my laptop for ~$10. which is a steal if you ask me. however, to swap the keyboard, it has these plastic taps which needs to be melted to get the keyboard out
<sad_plan>
that wouldve been really sick if they did. so users, myself including, can get a machine for a more affordable price, and upgrade over time
<dery>
sad_plan: had the same issue. Dunno what laptop you have (I had a lenovo) but in my case I could just snap/cut them off with an xacto blade sort of thing
<sad_plan>
also also, im starting to appreciate velox more and more as im using it. its rather solid really. despite being a tiler, which i initially didnt like, but now im liking it more and more. not having to mess around with window placement and stuff
<dery>
yes it'll be all floppy. I changed laptopt in the meanwhile (lol) but I think you can just use some resin in place of the old plastic rivets. Maybe UV curing stuff or epoxy
<sad_plan>
dery: I have an acer aspire. yeah I suppose you can just glue it inplace afterwards if its floppy
<sad_plan>
im kinda torn on buying one, as Id love to get a new laptop instead, but this laptop works. appart from the springs on 3 keys being busted, which is starting to annoy me more than Id think
<sad_plan>
also I dont have the money for a new one anyway, atleast not this summer. maybe in the fall/winter
<sad_plan>
so in that case, getting a new keyboard, or hell.. just get the correct springs would be a better solution
<sad_plan>
maybe I can find the correct ones on ebay, instead of getting a full keyboard
<sad_plan>
on another though, I could just order the whole keyboard, and just grab whats bad on mine, and just not switch the actuall keyboard lol
<sad_plan>
s/though/thought/
<sad_plan>
impressive. I can even get a palmrest for this laptop. seems like this laptop is more repairable than I initially thought lol
<sad_plan>
and looking at the prices for getting singular keys/springs... getting the whole damn keyboard ironically makes more and more sense when just one key+spring alone is priced+shipping almost equal to the whole keyboard. wth
<midfavila>
sad_plan: you should mention that in #mnt-reform
<sad_plan>
youre totally right mid

>do you see a reform mainboard for framework 13 in the future? >no, frameworkk is not open hardware and has weird political opinions
<midfavila>
basedbasedbasedbasedbased
<sad_plan>
lol, yeah, I saw that too. framework for some reason has made this piece of technology into politics. instead of just "we just wanna make repairable hardware"
<midfavila>
don't make me tap the "everything is political" sign sad_plan
<sad_plan>
I was thinking more in terms of "not making things more politcal than we absolutly have to"
<sad_plan>
but yes, most things these days are political in one way or another
<midfavila>
not "these days"
<midfavila>
always has been
<midfavila>
"not making things political" is itself a political act that upholds the status quo
<sad_plan>
it doesnt have to be something to uphold status quo. atleast not as a goal. not making things political can be a way of just making things less complicated than it have to be. I mean, you can make hardware, like in the case of mnt and framework, and just not bother with politics. just make hardware, and not fuzz about anything else besides that
<sad_plan>
which is.. not what framework is doing. more or less
<sad_plan>
I suppose framework is in a sense pressured to be more political perhaps, with them colleborating with bigger firms, while also having bigger investors aswell
<sad_plan>
damn, howl is kinda sick. its a swc based wm, which works much like wmutils. its scriptable. only thing thats missing is probably mouse support.
<dery>
let's be honest, if a group of people try to "not be political" they will enable nazis and, if they do, they're in turn political
<dery>
and if you try to keep them out, you're *still* political
<dery>
(and cool)
<sad_plan>
how is that any different from "if youre not with me, youre against me"?
<dery>
how is that apolitical? :P
<sad_plan>
if you look at what you said from a different angle, youre basically saying that if youre not political, youre enabling nazis. nazis are viewed as the enemy by most people these days. which is understandable ofc
