<midfavila> anonradio is cool yeah
<midfavila> i pretty much exclusively listen to anonradio and a couple local community stations
<midfavila> plus cbc and the bbc
<kris_> im tempted to set up a little physical radio that streams anonradio
<kris_> rpi i have had laying around for years + netbsd + a friend 3d printing a case for me + some speakers
<kris_> i think it would be cool

<midfavila> parasyte is so fucking good
<midfavila> okay i've decided
<midfavila> tomorrow is the day i learn to use troff properly
<midfavila> i need to write a CV and i'm tired of using latex or god forbid libreoffice
litharge has quit [*.net *.split]

<kris_> unfortunately i usually just use libreoffice
<kris_> i don't hate libreoffice though, i think i just hate how annoying all office software is to use
<sad_plan> i wish plaintext was a more commonly acceptable format

<kris_> would be nice
<kris_> if i were an employer id probably instantly decline any of these crazy stylized pdf resumes
sewn_7 is now known as sewn
<midfavila> >"yeah my resume is UTF-8 plaintext formatted for a 160x40 character terminal and it uses xterm style escape codes for formatting"
<kris_> hired.
<sad_plan> lol yep
<sad_plan> or better yet, if its a programmer job, write a portable C program that creates a window with the neccessary info on it. just launch the program to view the CV and application
<midfavila> hmm
<midfavila> using tofu and for some reason there are like
<midfavila> ghost windows
<midfavila> i should modify x11fs to provide the pid associated with each x11 window

<midfavila> k0ga: very cool
<midfavila> what macros?
<midfavila> sorry for the delay, i was making tendies uwu
<k0ga> midfavila: -ms
<k0ga> I can pass you it if you want
<k0ga> I added custom macros

<ilt> Hi
<ilt> It's been a while
<midfavila> YO
<midfavila> IT'S ILT
<midfavila> where the hell have you been dude
<midfavila> we were just talking about you the other day
<midfavila> ilt in case you didn't get the ping lol
<dery> YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ILT
<dery> it's so nice seeing you here!
<ilt> i've been in a hell
<ilt> it's good to see this channel is still alive
<midfavila> yeah, we're plugging along. couple of people have implemented kiss in other languages or forked off from the main system, and the core and community packages continue to be maintained
<midfavila> all the usual people are still here, albeit more or less depending on life circumstances
<midfavila> dylan actually showed up a while ago
<midfavila> he's a farmer now lol
<midfavila> someone here wrote a cgi program in rust for maintaining kiss repos or whatever
<midfavila> "lipstick on a pig"
<midfavila> dunno if it's still being worked on
<ilt> wow
<ilt> dylan been there? that's awesome
<midfavila> briefly yeah
<midfavila> he's also written some new software
<midfavila> namely a preprocessor to embed shell anywhere
<midfavila> which is neat
<midfavila> shellmaxxing
<midfavila> i'm working on fixing up a shell-based window manager for x11 that periish wrote(?) called tofu
<midfavila> dery: what else are people working on these days
<ilt> wild.gr
<ilt> haha
<ilt> this shit is dope
<midfavila> :DDD
<midfavila> the kiss cinematic universe expands
<ilt> for kiss linux in ... rust
<midfavila> i know, sacrilege :P
<ilt> i mean the two things are kinda contradictory
<midfavila> but it's neat still
<midfavila> we're like a real big boy distro now with our own web-based package browser and everything
<midfavila> i've been working on my own system as well. i actually got rid of kiss proper and i've been using z3bra's pm(1)
<midfavila> although, thinking about it, i can't see why pm can't be written in shell
<midfavila> btw kiedtl if you're still checking things out here lmk how i can volunteer CPU time for building
<midfavila> OH
<midfavila> ALSO
<midfavila> ilt there's been some interesting developments in the whole container/chroot/whatever space
<midfavila> someone unrelated to kiss wrote a lightweight containerisation system in posix(?) shell
<midfavila> by default it uses arch linux as the base but i'm sure it could be modified to use gkiss or something
<midfavila> conty(1)
<ilt> cool thing
<midfavila> yeah
<midfavila> how have you been, though?
<midfavila> give us an update. we've all been worried about you
<ilt> well, i've been like frozen for a year because there was no time to actually participate or anything
<ilt> i see that AI gained some serious traction
<midfavila> god, unfortunately

<k0ga> midfavila: what do you think about my ms macros?
<k0ga> do you want to kill me now? xD
<midfavila> k0ga: unfortunately i haven't had time to check them yet :c
<midfavila> i'm trying to get some other stuff working before i work on my cv and start fiddling with roff
<midfavila> i doubt that i'll find them that objectionable though
<k0ga> troff can be too terse
<k0ga> s/can be/is/
<k0ga> xD
<midfavila> my daily driver editor is ed
<midfavila> = w=
<k0ga> mine too
<midfavila> i can handle a little terseness
<k0ga> I used for commit messages and to compose emails
<k0ga> in some cases I just execute !vi %
<k0ga> if the edit is too complex
<midfavila> i use it for basically everything other than like, extended programming sessions
<midfavila> like if it's over, say, 250 lines
<k0ga> I used ed to write sbase ed XD
<midfavila> but for small programs i don't even bother opening emacs
<k0ga> that was recursive programming!
<midfavila> nice
<midfavila> i want to sit down and write my own ed from scratch at some point
worf1337 has joined #kisslinux
<k0ga> it is not so hard, but there are some topics that require a lot of attention
<midfavila> i imagine
<k0ga> we found many bugs in gnu ed
<midfavila> biggest challenge is just getting back into programming
<midfavila> i haven't done anything remotely serious in years
<k0ga> wow
<midfavila> unfortunately life happened
<midfavila> :c
<k0ga> switched to management?
<midfavila> no, i couldn't find work after finishing college and ended up bouncing between shit jobs
<k0ga> ouh
<k0ga> I know that
<midfavila> then i had to move to the other side of my country on short notice and basically start life over
<midfavila> lol
<k0ga> I had shit jobs for a while
<midfavila> i'm hoping to go back to school for a few years since college hasn't helped me land anything in tech
<k0ga> then I became involved in many open source projects and that helped me to leave that situation
<midfavila> so maybe uni will, idk
<midfavila> nice
<midfavila> i aspire to be a starving foss programmer living off pocket change donations
<midfavila> in particular i'd really like to work on qbe and associated projects
<midfavila> and of course kiss linux
<midfavila> and kiss linux-y things
<k0ga> that is hard
<k0ga> I workend in industrial oss projects, but not in funny oss projects
<k0ga> s/workend/worked/
<midfavila> minor mistake on the internet
<midfavila> it's all over
<midfavila> that's neat though
<k0ga> anyway, if you want to send patches for scc you are welcome :P
<midfavila> eh, it'll be a while
<k0ga> I didn't try it in kisslinux yet
<k0ga> I should
<midfavila> i don't have any formal education in CS stuff, and zero experience working on compilers or interpreters
<midfavila> i'd like to try implementing a simple lisp on top of qbe too
<k0ga> uhmmmm, lisp is interpreted
<k0ga> I don't think qbe is a good tool for that
<k0ga> writing a lisp interpreter is very funny
<k0ga> I also wrote one many years ago xD
<midfavila> hmm. i can't see why lisp couldn't be compiled to QBE's intermediary language... but you would be more familiar with it than i would
<k0ga> well, it can be, but then you need a big run time to be attached to your compiled program
<k0ga> you need a garbage collector
<k0ga> you need a way to polymorphic type system
<k0ga> s/to/& have a/
<k0ga> dynamic polymorphic type system
<k0ga> a sexp evaluator
<k0ga> and many other things that must be shiped in the executable
<midfavila> hmm. i mean, of course, but *how* large does it really need to be? sbcl executables are enormous, but some compiled schemes are quite small
<midfavila> not to mention that even C requires a runtime. it's just happenstance that the runtime is part of most unixes, is it not?
<midfavila> of course, it's much smaller and does different things, but still
<k0ga> well, in amd64 you only need the initial crt, that is just around 10 instructions
<midfavila> hmm. fair enough...
<k0ga> in 386 you need some functions for some operations
<k0ga> (for example for any 64 bit operation)
<midfavila> something to figure out down the line
