d4 update: i've been able now to boot all the way to H-D, but it powered off again (prolly needs the new upower/mce treatment). i connected the battery directly to the +/- and connected the fried bms as well. guess some part of it is still functional enough to satisfy the BL
uvos has joined #maemo-leste
<uvos>
MBM dosent care one bit about the bms
<uvos>
you can happly boot a d4 without it
mkfx has left #maemo-leste [Error from remote client]
<uvos>
it just cares about the voltage
<sicelo>
well it didn't boot without the bms. just showed motorola logo, then died even before kexecboot menu
<uvos>
im not sure whats going on your device but thats not the bms
<uvos>
i run a d4 whith the battery dirrectly connected to the device
<uvos>
no bms at all
<uvos>
no issues
<uvos>
same with running it off a lab supply
<sicelo>
i'll give it a go again, since i haven't yet made things permanent

droid 4's fuel gauge driver reports wrong sign for current_now, which causes upower to always consider it discharging. if anyone would like to work on that, would be great, otherwise i'll probably get to it a little later down the road
<sicelo>
it reports -ve for charging state, while -ve should mean discharging
<arno11>
dsc_: @qt5, not 'directly': fmg figured out that qt launch time is better if we use swap on a separate partition, but the issue itself is still there
<dsc_>
ok thx
<arno11>
(i still use the raster widget tweak to workaround that)
<Wizzup>
and the swap fix puts it on par with chimaera yeah?
<arno11>
approximatively yeah
<arno11>
but still very slow to open several qt apps at the same time
<arno11>
*approximatively with u3
<sicelo>
fun ... the mce logic is still flawed to some extent. will sent updated fixes shortly. my droid 4 keeps powering off :p

great to have the D4 running again :-)

arno11: i'll still work on the N900's call issue, but i will take a 3-week hiatus ... have lots of work coming up
<sicelo>
i already tested cmtspeech as a permanent client. it seems to be promising - i had observed occassional crashes before, but not even one as a permanent client.
Livio has quit [Quit: leaving]
<sicelo>
however, the PA simple api is a bit terrible for this, so in order to be really effective, i'll change it to the asynchronous calls
arno11 has joined #maemo-leste
<arno11>
sicelo: ok @hiatus. in the meanwhile, if you want me to test some code, don't hesitate to ask
<arno11>
cool @permanent client
<arno11>
and cool @d4 working :)
<arno11>
i will try to finish (properly) sphone keypad stuff next week btw, but not so easy for a non-dev to make something 'uvos compliant' :P
<arno11>
but that's already cool to be able to use a landscape keypad
<sicelo>
and that's what's great about being able to compile and run your own stuff - if upstream doesn't like it, you can still use it ;-)
<arno11>
;)
<arno11>
sicelo: Wizzup: btw to make boost mode easy to use, maybe we can add a new script in desktop-cmd-exec widget ? like when we click on it, it activates boost and show the max freq, and another click to deactivate it
<arno11>
(i already use something similar, really useful imo)
<sicelo>
by all means feel free :-)
* sicelo
has still never used boost in Leste, but will try some day
<arno11>
ah, btw you should use at least 500MHz min freq
<sicelo>
what was the 'evil' frequency btw? 125MHz?
<arno11>
yeah
<sicelo>
is it already removed in Leste, or one must remove it manually?
<arno11>
yep already removed in kernel
<arno11>
(dts)
<sicelo>
cool
<arno11>
but 250MHz is also a problem, not directly but badly used by governor
<arno11>
using 500 or 250 makes actually no diff in term of pm
<arno11>
apart the fact that the device feels slower with 250 min freq
