andrew said there were gonna be big changes to the io system on account of async/await, I don't recall if it will specifically affect that but I'm pretty sure that's coming in 0.15

i have a couple of very basic questions, apologies. first, what is the proper way to start river: river or dbus-run-session river? waybar tray works with "river" but not "dbus-run-session river".
<schneid3306>
second, is there a way to send commands outside of keyboard shortcuts? for example: riverctl map normal $mainMod Left send-layout-cmd rivertile "main-location left" - i tried to do that by tying "rivertile main-location left" into the terminal, but no dice. is there a way to do something like that?

what are the differences between river 0.3 & 0.4? is there anywhere that lists them yet?
<schneid3306>
ignore the first question. i figured out how to write commands outside keyboard shortcuts.
<jkellogg>
schneid3306 you'll want to do dbus-run-session if you don't have something (ie turnstile) that will automatically start a dbus session for you
<schneid3306>
jkellogg, okay. hmm. i do have a DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS, so does that mean the lines at the top of my init files are starting a dbus session? because going through dbus i also didn't get an XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP but I am with "river"

what are the benefits of a river specific dbus session via dvus-run-session river? sorry, i am trying to wrap my head around benefits vs having a working system tray

pkap: pushed a fix to river-classic by the way, I guess you can actually move your PR over there as well since the 0.3.x branch on the river repo is now frozen
<ifreund>
I still need to do some cleanup of the issue tracker and whatnot to push all other 0.3 related stuff over to river-classic
<ifreund>
Might wait till I merge the rwm branch to main though
