<ConanKudo[m]1>
part of the reason I originally prototyped this idea on Weston was because Weston has all kinds of exotic features for supporting weird hardware that pretty much nobody else has
<ConanKudo[m]1>
Weston is used in tons of embedded environments and lots of different groups have written code to do these things, even if most of it isn't in upstream Weston yet
<ConanKudo[m]1>
unfortunately I do not expect any other compositor to do this because the problem is that these custom backends always bitrot
<ConanKudo[m]1>
nobody maintains them
<emersion>
they bitrot in Weston too, and are not high quality, and are often specific to a use-case
<emersion>
the solution is to add a unified API for these accelerators, which was discussed this XDC
<emersion>
(and have these upstream in the kernel)
<ConanKudo[m]1>
yeah
<ConanKudo[m]1>
then everything works through the drm backend
<ConanKudo[m]1>
the Aspeed graphics already exists in the kernel and has KMS though
<ConanKudo[m]1>
that's the big one I know most people hit especially on PowerPC systems
