<Ermine> is it possible to boot rk3288 withouth rockchip blobs?

<mmind00> Ermine: rk3288 does have full dram init in uboot and the kernel uses the "old" in-kernel smp bringup with being arm32, so that _should_ just work

<Ermine> qschulz: currently we use stuff from rkbin to make idbloader and stuff as per rockchip wiki
<qschulz> Ermine: don't read rockchip wiki for upstream stuff :)
<Ermine> Okay
<qschulz> idbloader from rkbin is typically only useful if you don't have an open-source DRAM initialization available in U-Boot
<qschulz> it's essentially U-Boot TPL/SPL
<qschulz> but if you have open-source DRAM init, then you don't need it
<Ermine> Well, if I just can throw away those blob I'll be just happy
<qschulz> you should be able to
<qschulz> those still may be outdated but they have worked at some point with upstream U-Boot on RK3288
<qschulz> what you want to flash on your eMMC/SD is u-boot-rockchip.bin, at the same offset you would flash idbloader
<qschulz> typically offset 32KiB (so block number 64 if you use rkdeveloptool for example)
<Ermine> Okay, will figure out my dts issue first then
<qschulz> what's the error with your DTS?
<qschulz> is it still the same DTS as last attempt on #u-boot yesterday?
<Ermine> qschulz: yes
ldevulder has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]
<qschulz> Ermine: can we have the build logs?
<qschulz> Ermine: first, you should start by including rk3288.dtsi in your rk3288-lango.dts
<qschulz> then in arch/arm/dts/rk3288-lango-u-boot.dtsi you can include rk3288-u-boot.dtsi

<Ermine> qschulz: logs with rk3288.dtsi included: https://0x0.st/Kz1X.log
<Ermine> IIUC this happens because I haven't specified some stuff in my dts
<qschulz> Ermine: look at the &dmc entry in rk3288-evb-u-boot.dtsi
<qschulz> you're probably missing something like that
<qschulz> now how you come up with those values.... I don't know
<Ermine> i have downstream dts extracted from android which is originally shipped with this board
<qschulz> ah, maybe it does have those values then!
<Ermine> Should we continue in #u-boot ?
<qschulz> up to you, both are fine
<Ermine> okay, is there documentation on rk3288-dmc binding?

<robmur01> naoki: is MDIO working? As mentioned, ISTR that when it can't talk to the phy that somehow ends up reporting a weird DMA timeout

<Ermine> can it be dangerous to try timings from other boards?

<qschulz> no clue. I would say worst case scenario the DRAM isn't fully working and rebooting should get rid of it, but I have no knowledge in that
<beeble> wrong timings will not damage it
