<gamiee> test
<gamiee_> ack, sweeet.
<Haohmaru> <explosion.wav>
<gamiee> Haha. I just connected the main account gamiee with my discord server. I use quassel on gamiee_, but I wasn't using quassel for a time, and I do not have notifications there.
<gamiee> So switched to discord so I can watch the chat and help if needed :p
<Haohmaru> who even uses discord ;P~
<ALTracer> wait you had discord?
<karlp> there's no formal openocd discord that I'm aware o?
<PaulFertser> Fuck discord
<karlp> I like it :)
<karlp> it works better on my phone than irc...
<PaulFertser> They don't like you though. And the other good people.
<karlp> I mean, I get it, fuck em...
<karlp> but I still like it more than a lot of other options.
<PaulFertser> They actively banned free software developers for providing alternative clients to their system. In my book, that's insta-ban for the service.
<gamiee> Yeah, discord is not perfect, but I need to use it for almost everything, so... There I am. + it works great on phone.
<gamiee> And I have it bridged to my own discord server. I have Linux-sunxi bridged the same way.
<PaulFertser> You can't really have your own server, it's their play on words to fool people into feeling as if they own something...
<Haohmaru> mv discord proprietarycord
<Haohmaru> there, fixed
<Haohmaru> also, who even uses smartphones ;P~
<gamiee> PaulFertser : i mean, my own guild, but it's mostly named server, but yeah, no real selfhosted discord server.
<Haohmaru> karlp, what's the problem with IRC?
* Haohmaru is not familiar with smurtphones
<gamiee> Hoahmaru : tl;dr not good client available which have both reliable/good notifications and also do not consume your battery too much for being connected 24/7 to the server.
<PaulFertser> gamiee: hm, and https://codeberg.org/emersion/goguma ? Seems to be using UnifiedPush for notifications so.
<PaulFertser> With a suitable IRC bouncer.

<gamiee> oooh! Looks good PaulFertser ! Will take a look :)
<gamiee> (also sorry for offtopic :D )
<Haohmaru> the actual messages are in "bubbles" like in many of the dumb new "chat" programs, that looks unpretty, how does /me look like even, and why would IRC eat lots of battery, wtf
<Haohmaru> huh, and it seems, just like Viber, you can't change basic things like the font size o_O
<PaulFertser> Haohmaru: modern mobile platforms keep just _one_ TCP connection from a system service to a push notification server which sends notifications on behalf of _all_ the different services from different companies, and the app itself is completely stopped in the background.
<PaulFertser> Haohmaru: so guess you can imagine why not being able to do that harms battery life.
<Haohmaru> wot o_O
<PaulFertser> Re the bubbles, I agree it's plain silly, just wasting screen estate.
<Haohmaru> so if you have 3 different "chat" programs, Viber Proprietarycord and another one... there's 1 TCP socket talking to some server? which server, dafuq is this?!
<Haohmaru> this amazes me since they are by different bloodsuc... ehm, i mean Companies
<Haohmaru> the more i learn about smurtphones - the worst the picture gets
<Haohmaru> * worse
<Haohmaru> i personally fiddled with a smurtphone once for a short time, it was aweful, but i tried to see if i can connect to IRC from it, and i found just one program that looked "normal", it was called something like yaaic

<Haohmaru> oh, so for example the Viber server talks to google's server just for these things, and the google server accumulates them, then your smurtphone has one socket to the google server?
