Hi everyone it's time to begin the weekly OVN developers' meeting.
<dceara>
Hi
<mkalcok>
o/
<zhouhan>
hi
<mmichelson>
I'll start things off.
imaximets_ has quit [Changing host]
imaximets_ has joined #openvswitch
imaximets_ is now known as imaximets
<mmichelson>
Tomorrow is the scheduled release of OVN 25.09.0. imaximets_ found a regression due to the copying of NB Logical Datapath UUIDs to SB Datapath_Bindings. dceara and I created a patch to fix this and it was merged earlier today.
<mmichelson>
I've also been doing reviews and working on RH customer issues.

moloings has joined #openvswitch
<mmichelson>
My question to everyone here is: do you know of any issues that should prevent the release of 25.09.0 tomorrow? If so, please speak up and let us know.
<mmichelson>
And that's all I have for my update.
<imaximets>
Xavier mentioned some upgrade issues with health checks today.
<imaximets>
Not sure if that's worth postponing the release, I'm not very familiar with the details.
<dceara>
Well, he also posted a patch to fix it, we should probably just review and hopefully merge the fix I guess.
<mmichelson>
imaximets, ack. He's not on here, so I can't enquire here about how hard/easy it is to fix.
<mmichelson>
OK, I'll prioritize reviewing that after this meeting is over.
<dceara>
Speaking of issues that might block the release. I also have an issue that popped up just before this meeting. I'm not sure whether it should block the release though, maybe we can deal with it as a bug fix.
<dceara>
In a slack conversation in the CNCF slack instance, ovn-kubernetes channel, ovn-k developers reported that https://github.com/ovn-org/ovn/commit/27cc274 will probably break ovn-kubernetes.
<dceara>
More specifically some features like "external gateway" where they use source ip routing with ecmp-symmetric-reply.
<mmichelson>
Didn't we specifically reach out to them about that patch?
<dceara>
zhouhan, you're also tagged on that thread it would be great if you could also share your thoughts on it.
<dceara>
Yes, we had cc-ed maintainers from all known CMS that use OVN. Since the first time the patch was posted, approx November 2024.
<dceara>
And explicitly asked for feedback.
<zhouhan>
dceara I am having an internal discussing with Tim
<dceara>
zhouhan, ack, thank you
<dceara>
mmichelson, I can also share a regular weekly update if I may.
<mmichelson>
dceara, sure, go ahead.
<dceara>
While working on the aforementioned upgrade issue that mmichelson fixed, I found some other small issues and posted patches for them. Some are already merged (by Ales). And today I posted a fix for an OVN BGP issue I had on my todo list for a while.
<dceara>
Aside from that, looking forward to the release happening tomorrow! :)
<zhouhan>
However, it still doesn't solve the problem of the rest 50%. For the rest of the bottlenecks, we could improve the locking machanism but I think eventually incremental processing is required, which is non-trivial.
<zhouhan>
So, I am continue exploring the flow-based tunneling. Basic function works, but still fight with tens of test case failures ...
<zhouhan>
In addition, there is a proposal from ovn-k community for MCP server for LLM troubleshooting ...
<zhouhan>
It is interesting, and asking for MCP server for OVN/OVS. I left some comments there. Welcome to more opinions
<zhouhan>
That's it from me
<mmichelson>
thanks zhouhan
<mmichelson>
A lot to take in this week :)
<mmichelson>
Who would like to go next?
<imaximets>
May I?
<mmichelson>
imaximets, you may
<imaximets>
Not much from my side, been involved in discovering and discussing some of the upgrade issues mentioned above.
<imaximets>
And submit your talks for the OVS+OVN Conference!
<imaximets>
The original deadline was this Monday the 8th, but we got a few requests to extend it, so now it's on 22nd.
<imaximets>
But sooner - the better. :)
<imaximets>
That's all from me.
<dceara>
imaximets, thanks for the reminder, I'm planning to send a proposal too!
<mmichelson>
imaximets, OK thanks.
<moloings>
Onliner, I have been working on port replication for transit router support
<mmichelson>
moloings, thanks!
<mmichelson>
Do we have anyone else that wants to give an update?
<mkalcok>
I can go very quickly
<mkalcok>
I got feedback from amusil regarding the fix for unnecessary CT commits of DNA_AND_SNAT traffic. I'll work it into a proposal the first chance I get
<mkalcok>
(that's all)
<mmichelson>
mkalcok, OK thanks!
<mmichelson>
anyone else?
<fnordahl>
oneliner: supporting erlon on their udp fragmentation patch series, otherwise downstream stuff for me, great with CFP extension, I'll spread the word
<mmichelson>
fnordahl, cool, thanks!
<mmichelson>
I didn't see any other OVN devs in here, but if there's anyone else I missed that wants to give an update, now's the time.
<mmichelson>
I think that's it! Thanks everyone. Have a great day. And happy release day tomorrow!
<imaximets>
Thanks! Bye.
<dceara>
Thanks, bye!
