<DC-IRC> [Discord] <random_anon_cesar> You may have to check the documentation from OrangePi. I know the SPI flash has to be set depending on what you’re using as your boot drive (NVME, MicroSD, eMMC etc)
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <random_anon_cesar> I have a Rock5b with an NVME installed. I know Radxa wants you to set the SPI flash if you want to use the NVME as the OS drive.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <random_anon_cesar> Instead I opted to have the OS saved to an eMMC & use the NVME for media storage
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <gospod13337> Try `armbian-install`

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> Sometimes newer kernels don't work well with legacy/vendor u-boot and vice versa. Since SPI is the first the board checks when trying to boot, clearing it makes sense. Next in line is emmc afaik and when not present microsd will be tried which we want.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <_.dominic> I managed to get the OPI5 ultra to boot through a custom compile of the `vendor` branch, neither `edge` or `current` worked. Although I'm not sure if its a hardware issue, but bluetooth would not start
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> opi5 is community supported. Its status is unknown to Armbian. May work, may no. Anyone from the community can step up, take a look into and if possible fix issues.

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <gospod13337> I believe SPI on opi5 is only 16MB which is only for uboot
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <gospod13337> I believe he needs to flash proper uboot and not *only* clear it
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Werner> uboot on SPI is only necessary when booting from nvme, ssd or usb. microsd and emmc can have both uboot and rootfs
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Tonymac32> There is no communication from U-boot to the Kernel concerning the tcpm state machine so any machine that *doesn't* reset is a hack/accident/pure luck
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <mecoblock> is that not possible or what collabora has been working on for so long?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <Tonymac32> I'll have to go back and see, but the fundamental issue for 6+ years has always been the handoff from U-boot to kernel resetting the port controller, v-safe and i-safe can't power the board with the peripherals brought up and boom

<DC-IRC> [Discord] <.slch> i erased spi and now new headless versions of armbian run but versions with built-in de don't give any output to hdmi
ChanServ has quit [shutting down]
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <.slch> it seems only on the vendor kernel... other kernels make the LED blink but also do not output anything to hdmi
