I believe the strings can be concatenated without a need of "ruby support"
<nakilon>
I'm not gonna send emails about how to use another random gem
<nakilon>
*send emails to Japan, *random gem of not theirs
<nakilon>
indeed, there are limited resources, and they are being wasted first on useless version bump, then second by me and others to fork, edit that gemspec, and run rspec
<nakilon>
is anyone going to be surprised that 'bundle exec rspec' ran it on 2.7 without failures?
<nakilon>
it's some fundamental misunderstanding by people what the required_ruby_version option is
<nakilon>
people just don't get it, what it is for
<nakilon>
if everyone had to bump those on every december or smth, it would be built-in into bundler and rubygems and it would just block or rm -rf your ruby by schedule
<nakilon>
I wonder how much IQ it needs to realise that if it's not automated, then maybe it's just unrelated? maybe the purpose of that configuration is different? why is it so hard to comprehend?
<nakilon>
and I don't understand what's so hard to comprehend in "I don't need the ruby to be supported, I'm not going to email Japan about random gem I wanns use"
<nakilon>
even if I was going to, it would still have no sense; bumping the dhash-vips required version would only harm, i.e. do the OPPOSITE of what people say they bump the version for
<nakilon>
it becomes just a blatant lie that the bump is making anything better or easier -- it's only wasting the resources instead of saving them

I waasted them so many times because of it; do I or anyone here waste them because "that random gem had to low required ruby version"?

<nakilon>
he just COPYPASTED the versions; without understanding that those are DIFFERENT options, they are serving different purposes; they are just different things; the 'required version' and 'version that's being CI tested' are just two different, separate things
<nakilon>
it there was a sense in copypasting it would be already automated, and the CI action would take it from gemspec, or vice versa; it just makes no sense; no effort is put by anyone into even understanding what they are doing
<nakilon>
also why not yank all the older versions of the gems from rubygems?
<kjetilho>
nakilon: preach!
<nakilon>
if you are supposed to be not able to run the old ruby versions, why don't we yank the old gems too -- they 'have vulnerabilities', the 'are not supported', let's just yank the rubygems, and it will probably even start working and resolving faster
<nakilon>
also disallow to turn on the PC if it got too old
<nakilon>
don't walk the street if the asphalt is outdated
<nakilon>
I'll just barricade all my neighbors to 'save the resources'
<nakilon>
it will save their time if they don't go out of the building
<nakilon>
I'm just frustrated, sry, lol
<nakilon>
if not that useless bump I would probably use that gem, but due to the time needed to be wasted on forking and testing, it made me realise I don't even need that gem, I'll use ERB; i.e. they've lost the user
<nakilon>
and that also does not align with the topic we were talking yesterday that "it should be easier for users to get things started"

just use slim if you want cool template syntax 😎
<nakilon>
it's like an invisible flamegraph with counters
<nakilon>
or real example I discovered, that somehow once in a while either capybara or concurrent are breaking the Thread.main.backtrace, just cut is off, and that's just the piece remaining https://i.imgur.com/Ok6qJ3F.png
<nakilon>
*on real
<o0x1eef>
It's nice :) Not sure I entirely understand that javascript is working though, but still cool
<nakilon>
now only need to shorten the backtrace, because the first ~100 levels are rspec, bundler and whatever; and store them as diffs because 48 seconds long dump is 56 mb
<nakilon>
o0x1eef: you just move the mouse left and right to go though the timeline
<o0x1eef>
Ah, very cool
