<Constanta> Hi guys. Does anyone has an experience with updating the Yocto warrior up to the next version? The problem is we have  a legacy a lot. We decide to freeze the linux-xilinx and update all our meta layers and Yocto up to dunfell. Does anyone resolved such problems? Give me a hint)

<kanavin> Constanta, plenty of people update yocto to later versions all the time, but I assume less people would be willing to to help you for free. Chances are higher if you ask specific, particular questions. Or hire me to do the work ;)
<kanavin> also dunfell is as outdated as warriror, both EOL long ago

<leaf_it_out> Hi, Ihave acreated patch using devtools that adds a new moduel to the kernel drivers. I have added it to the Makefile and Kconfig. However when I build it (teh c file or compiled moduel) is not in my build folder. Evern though the new file changes are listed in my .patch file do I still have to add the c file via SRC_URI in addition to the .patch file?
<leaf_it_out> In addition would I need to do a do_deploy:append to "install" the file to my kernel source tree? Thanking you!

<rburton> notice: if anyone else hits that problem where hatchling can't find pluggy, please can you share your tmp/work/*/python3-pluggy-native/*/temp/log.do_compile with me
<rburton> the setuptools-scm integration is breaking again and deciding that pluggy is version 0.0.0, but i can't see _why_
<RP> we need someone with an older tmpdir to bitbake python3-hatchling-native and see if it breaks
<Constanta> kanavin: Yes. We have a plan step-by-step update the warrior up to the latest version. Because of legacy the first point is dunfell)

<rburton> moto-timo: that py deps thing made me want to go and finish my python depends from toml branch
<rburton> it had a _slew_ of TODOs but the proof of concept worked
<moto-timo> rburton: you read my mind
<rburton> the challenge is constructing a packaging.marker.Environment that represents the *target*
<moto-timo> Unrelated, the weird thing when I ran `wheel` on target is it was missing `base64`... but clearly `packaging` is required.
<moto-timo> well, not unrelated actually. lol

<khem> Constanta: its perhaps better to directly go to a maintained LTS like 5.0 ( scarthgap ) you will save time
<kanavin> Constanta, it's even better to track master milestone releases, and have one or several lts based setups for released product support

<halstead> moto-timo: regarding https://bugzilla.yoctoproject.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15914 should I go ahead and add the 5.2 branch?
<halstead> I didn't see the bug until it was reassigned to you.
<moto-timo> If you like. I was going to try to document the process so it isn’t just limited tribal knowledge
<halstead> moto-timo: I'm not sure I'm qualified. I just add the new layer info at https://layers.openembedded.org/admin/layerindex/branch/add/ and cross my fingers. Are there more steps? I'm happy to help document.
<moto-timo> halstead: I _think_ that's enough for this bug. RRS is more to it (see the other bug I referenced). Honestly I haven't done this since scarthgap, so it's a bit fuzzy.
* halstead nods.
cyxae has quit [Quit: cyxae]
<RP> halstead: it is find to go ahead but we need to document what we need to do with the release in this regard
