Is there a way to prefer available hardware encoders (as listed by vaainfo) when no encoder is specified? I think by default ffmpeg uses software encoders

ive stumbled into a rather large animated webp file, and the only program that can even reveal that its animated is qview, ffmpeg just claims `[webp @ 0x3274800] skipping unsupported chunk: ANMF`, and most other programs eat 40+gig of ram and then produce a single black frame
<clever>
what can i do to convince ffmpeg that its actually video content?
