<Tuxie> Hey. I have a weird issue with I frames and timelapses. Basically I get extra 60 seconds of content in the beginning of final sped up video... I've described this in detail here https://superuser.com/questions/1919978/ffmpeg-is-adding-extra-60-seconds-in-the-beginning-of-the-file-due-to-sparse-i-f   Wondering if anyone has ideas how to fix it?

<iconoclasthero> i have an audio file (chapter from an audiobook) that's giving me this error with ffprobe/ffmpeg:
<iconoclasthero> `[ogg @ 0x5a285abb2e00] Unsupported huge granule pos -17' '[ogg @ 0x5a285abb2e00] Packet processing failed: Invalid data found when processing input'
<iconoclasthero> vlc will play it. i tried to reencode (-acodec libopus) and remux (-acodec copy) and i get '[in#0/ogg @ 0x58c48a9fbcc0] Error during demuxing: Invalid data found when processing input' with both and an empty file.
<iconoclasthero> anything else i can do here?

<linsux> i convert a file but the destination lost subtitles included in original video
<linsux> what's the argument to include the subtitles
<ePirat> make sure to use -map 0 if you want to map all streams to the output
srikanth has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<linsux> when you say all streams, stream can be video, audio or subtitles?

<BtbN> I don't think mp4 can hold all the subtitle formats that mkv can, and "transcoding" subtitles doesn't really work all that well
<linsux> so what should i do
<linsux> i need to shrink movies
<ePirat> you wont shrink anything by changing the container to mp4
<linsux> so what should i do. shink same mkv to another smaller mkv
<linsux> how about i distract a srt file from that mkv?
<ePirat> if you want to reduce the size, re-encode and just leave them as mkv. You probably need to play around with parameters for a while to find acceptable quality-size tradeoff for you for the output
<BtbN> 10bit HEVC is already pretty dang efficient
<BtbN> so unlikely you can make it much smaller without trashing the quality
<BtbN> assuming whoever encoded it didn't use stupid settings

<linsux> very complicated
<beastd> BtbN,ePirat, linsux: I think if it wasn't actually re-encoded from bluray the files could be really big because of padding in the video stream? think i encounterd that, but maybe i'm confusing it with sth else.
<BtbN> it's hevc, I don't think that can be on bluray, can it?
<furq> uhd bluray is hevc
<BtbN> This is 1080p tho
<furq> right
<BtbN> it's also a file from a release group, I doubt they waste space and bandwidth with padding
<ePirat> where you can save a bit usually is if they didnt cut off the black bars
<BtbN> wenn, the black bars are often where the subs are rendered though
<BtbN> so if you change the resolution, the subtitles break
<BtbN> *well
<ePirat> right but thats what I meant, it all depends on the tradeoffs you are willing to do
<ePirat> and what subs you have
<BtbN> ffmpeg-user is still migrating btw.
<BtbN> will approximately take 2h to import the archives
<ePirat> wow
<BtbN> and it's only 25% of the size of ffmpeg-devel
<ePirat> thats really slow
<BtbN> it's taking every mail from the mbox, parses it, assigns it to a user, makes one if it doesn't exist, and so on
<BtbN> and also full-text-search indexes it
<ePirat> can it not parallelize this?
<BtbN> not sensibly
<BtbN> it has to make sure it parses the start of threads first
<BtbN> It's also a very rare operation. So I doubt anyone wants to hyper-optimize that code and make it less obvious
iive has quit [Quit: They came for me...]
<furq> the bluray padding thing relies on annex b i think
fgarcia has quit [Quit: Remote host closed the connection]
<furq> at least for avc
<BtbN> I don't think there are any 10bit h265 1080p blurays
<furq> but also that's not a remux anyway
<furq> right
<BtbN> that's gonna be a reencode already

<linsux> i only want to shrink a file as quick as possible, plus subtitle inside the source file, the subtitle can either be a separated srt file or inside the destination file
<BtbN> I'm sure that's not your only constraint
<BtbN> cause "as quick as possible" will result in "unwatchable pixel mush"
<linsux> the -c:v copy is faster than encoder ?
<linsux> so i use that
<BtbN> well yes, because it doesn't encode
<BtbN> but it also literally copies
<BtbN> so nothing will change
<linsux> if nothing change, why output file is smaller
<linsux> what is shrunk
<BtbN> you either omitted something, or used a more efficient container
<BtbN> mpegts has pretty high overhead for example
