<ifreund> pkap: the window manager has to do a bit of work to handle keyboard focus for layer surfaces as well I think
<ifreund> but the compositor can handle positioning layer surfaces on its own

<szgy> ifreund: why a specific protocol for river specific layer shells? are there limitation to wlr-layer-shell-v1?

<leon-p> szgy: that protocol is meant to allow window managers to handle layer shell surfaces, the actual layer shell using clients themselves will not need to know about that
<m_a_r_k> I'm trying river for the first time, and copied the example config to get started. I cannot seem to launch a terminal. super+Shift+E closes river, but Super+Shift+enter does not open foot. I've read the getting started guid and am clearly misisng something obvious here
<m_a_r_k> I remade the file and it's working now.maybe I had some weird character or the sample file corrupted or something.
