BtbN: 1080p50 is standard for some channels
<BtbN>
never seen that around here
<BtbN>
720p or 1080i only
<furq>
i'm pretty sure the only progressive broadcast here is 4k
<furq>
which is only for paid services
danielxhogan has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<furq>
and half of that is probably delivered over ip nowadays
<another|>
BtbN: which channels broadcast 1080i50 ? private ones?
<BtbN>
all the freely available ones on Vodafone DVC-C here
<BtbN>
well, 720p or 1080i
<another|>
ah. for once terrestrial is ahead of cable and satellite
<BtbN>

I've got a object/context which combines a AVFormatContext and AVCodecContext to e.g. read mp4, rtsp, etc. Now I want to decode a pure annex-b h264 stream (from memory) and I'm wondering if I can somehow reuse the AVFormatContext for this?
flotwig_ has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
<snoriman>
I think I'll create a new wrapper w/o a AVFormatContext, seems to make sense to me.

When I've got raw annex-b h264 buffers that I want pass into avcodec_send_packet(), what would be a optimal solution to manage the AVPackets? I mean, I wouldn't want to allocate the buffers for each nal that I receive?

Hello. Ive got a FFSERVER running on a raspberrypi to transform a RTSP stream to a baseline RTSP stream. Unfortunatelly the network connection to the camera is sometimes weak and drops. As soon as it drops, FFSERVER gets a connection timeout and stops working. "rtsp://admin:password@192.168.1.17:554/stream2: Connection timed out". But it doesnt
<wormie>
exit, it just stops working until I kill the process and restart it again. Does anybody know if there is any way to let FFSERVER reconnect? I couldnt find anything while executing "ffserver --help"

<furq>
where did you even find ffserver
<furq>
that was removed over seven years ago
<wormie>
it's possible to install with a GIT checkout
<furq>
you'd probably have better luck with something not abandoned like mediamtx
<wormie>
to be honest, my fav would be to have some program which runs on windows which transforms me a rtsp stream into pure baseline. but I was unable to find something for that yet. I just found a how for this ffserver thingy.
<furq>
mediamtx runs on windows
<furq>
it is a bit overkill though

i thought ffserver was a legit tool there for a second

<johnjaye>
has the perfect naming and catchy feel
<johnjaye>
ffmovie. ffhttp. ffmp4. ffstream
<furq>
well it sort of was a decade ago
<furq>
although it never really worked that well
<furq>
to the point that nobody wanted to maintain it to keep it up with api changes and so it just got removed

<johnjaye>
i vaguely recall fiddling with ffmpeg years ago because i wanted to stream radio or audio on my lan
<johnjaye>
and i couldn't get icecast working. so i thought using ffmpeg or mplayer or something would do it
softworkz has joined #ffmpeg
<johnjaye>
the idea being i suppose to type a url or ip into your phone and play music
<furq>
it works fine as a client but it has never really been a capable server
<johnjaye>
right
<furq>
sounds like you wanted mpd or something
<furq>
i don't think icecast does on-demand playback
<johnjaye>
that sounds familiar yes
<johnjaye>
vlc supposedly does stuff like that but the vlc manual has always been very abstruse.
<johnjaye>
so i haven't had the motivation to read it
<johnjaye>
actually i'm not sure what motivated me to read and learn about ffmpeg. i never had the drive to understand the documentation before now.

I asked grok how to host an rtmp stream. It recommends, in order 1) ffmpeg, 2) obs, 3) nginx with the rtmp module, 4) vlc. after that the suggestions get increasingly nonsensical

except for nginx, all of those answers are wrong

the nginx one is probably copied since i get threads with that title of "how to use nginx with rtmp" and the like

johnjaye: Looking over the scrollback, I don’t see anyone recommending you look over mediamtx, and see if that will help you: https://github.com/bluenviron/mediamtx
<johnjaye>
in fact the amazing, one of a kind ffmpeg star himself furq recommended it.
<johnjaye>
but thanks.
<bpmedley>
Doh, I didn’t scroll back far enough
<johnjaye>
it's not included in debian repos surprisingly.

there's not really any need, any sufficiently large project ships static binaries
