<CyReVolt> Hey everyone, just a quick drop here - I'm currently translating the DRAM init code for the RK356x to Rust for use in oreboot.
<CyReVolt> I am taking the smallest binary from the rkbin repo, which is for lower speed, as a starting point.
<CyReVolt> In case anyone wants to follow along or team up, please just poke me. I'd be happy to see this also ported to U-Boot (SPL). :)
<CyReVolt> Talked about it at GPN last weekend, if anyone's curious.
<qschulz> CyReVolt: U-Boot TPL* :)
<qschulz> GPN?
<CounterPillow> CyReVolt: cool!

<CyReVolt> <qschulz> "CyReVolt: U-Boot TPL* :)" <- yea I mean, once done, TPL is no longer necessary :)
<CyReVolt> that is currently the blob that is integrated in U-Boot
<CyReVolt> when it's C code, it can just be part of SPL
<CyReVolt> <qschulz> "GPN?" <- GPN is one of the major CCC events in Germany
<CyReVolt> once started as Gulaschprogrammiernacht, now a 4-day event
<qschulz> CyReVolt: we typically always have DRAM init as part of TPL on Rockchip
<qschulz> (as far as I remember, maybe I missed something :) )
<qschulz> the point is also to make it easier to switch between the blob and the open-source implementation (if there's one)
<qschulz> CyReVolt: thanks for the info :)

<CounterPillow> mmind00: am I the first to notice that the HYM8563 looks to be a register-compatible clone of the PCF8563 and probably shouldn't have its own driver, or am I missing something? :D
valpackett has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
<CounterPillow> ok, apparently this was noticed a while ago and needs careful merging according to sebastian
<CyReVolt> <qschulz> "the point is also to make it..." <- ah gotcha, well I'll leave that up to U-Boot devs/experts 😅

<mmind00> CounterPillow: yes past-mmind00 didn't realize to look for similarities when writing the hym8563 driver ... sins of youth and all ;-)
<mmind00> CounterPillow: and nowadays I guess ... "it's an RTC driver" ... not seeing much "development", so nobody has been bothered enough to dive into that mentioned merging
<CounterPillow> maybe it'll get done before 2069 when the pcf8563 driver breaks due to the year counter overflowing :D
