<bryanb> pitillo: they are open for all and I think it's just the default permission setting.
<bryanb> i thihk we can modify it (maybe after the call starts), but I don't use google meet all that much
mmu_man has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds]
<pitillo> bryanb: thanks for the info. I'd like to join one and attend as listener to see how U-boot team manages them :)
<Tartarus> It should be open, yeah, I always let anyone in that google says needs to be let in
<pitillo> I tried two weeks ago and it was 10 minutes late, so I kept waiting thinking that may be some kind of invitation was needed... but probably the call was finished.
<Tartarus> Yeah, they've been very short these last few times
<Tartarus> It's partly why I asked if the time was good in my email today
<pitillo> I'll try to join the next one. Thank you for the clarification

<Tartarus> Well, neat. At very quick glance, uh, outside of all of the outstanding drivers/ patches, "allyesconfig" is nearly there. Based on building just subdirectories at least
<Tartarus> The only thing I have locally now that I didn't post is making CMD_JFFS2 / FS_JFFS2 depend on !COMPILE_TEST because I really hope to just delete that code instead, we're down to 2 boards left using it

<marex> Tartarus: doesnt altera use jffs2 extensively ?
<marex> Tartarus: I mean intel PSG
<Tartarus> Nope
<marex> Tartarus: I mean altera again
<marex> Tartarus: they used to, a lot
<Tartarus> $ ./tools/qconfig.py -f FS_JFFS2

<marex> Tartarus: at least CV/AV were using jffs2 a lot, so I wonder whether this didn't go away by accident
___nick___ has joined #u-boot
<Sout_> what are the other alternatives for jffs2 for rw?
<Tartarus> That's a page from 2016, which it keeps shocking me to recall is a long time ago now :(
<marex> Tartarus: CV and AV SoC are ancient too, but still supported upstream
<marex> Tartarus: and their GHRD shockingly still suggest to use JFFS2, which used to be enabled on Altera SoCFPGA in U-Boot
<Tartarus> My only real objection to JFFS2 is that whenever I ask if someone would like to fix the reported security issues with it, or move their board away from using it, people choose to move away
<marex> Tartarus: so ... I wonder why it became disabled now ...
<marex> Tartarus: my objection to JFFS2 on altera was right from the start, but altera was using it, so ... that ship has sailed
<marex> Tartarus: I wonder why it got disabled on the CV and AV devkits, it used to be enabled there iirc

<rfs613> do we know if anyone is using recent u-boot on CV ?
<marex> 386fca689609 ("arch: arm: Agilex5 enablement")
<marex> + "then echo QSPI: Running script from JFFS2; fi; " \
<marex> look, remnants are even on agilex
<Tartarus> Looks like they didn't upstream enabling it tho
<Tartarus> zero matches on JFFS on configs/socfpga* or arch/arm/mach-socfpga
<marex> Tartarus: see d6d55cdeca49 ("arm: socfpga: arria5_socdk: Update qspiboot to use UBIFS")
<marex> Tartarus: it seems upstream got pushed toward UBIFS :)
<Tartarus> There ya go :)
<marex> well, that's good
<marex> rfs613: me ?
<rfs613> marex: figures :-)
<marex> rfs613: there was some question about U-Boot on CV recently in one of the telcos too
<rfs613> marex: I was recently trying to update uboot on a non-upstream CV-based board... I made it to 2023.01, but with 2023.04 the board fails in SPL with SDRAM calibration error. Looked at drivers/ddr/altera but didn't see anything obviously changed. Also quick look at clocks.
<marex> rfs613: git bisect ?
<rfs613> yeah, it's a bit of effort, as I need to re-apply board-specific patches each step
<marex> rfs613: CV had weird issues with SPL corruption if the SPL was too big, you might want to check SPL size
<rfs613> I did hit the SPL size limit, and removed some CONFIG_SPL_ stuff to reduce the size
<rfs613> but I guess I could try removing even more stuff to see if that helps ;-)

<shadows> who are the U-Boot USB experts? have a report of endpoint error for usb storage device that is probably cheap junk hardware but it does work in Linux Kernel albeit with some noise in dmesg
<shadows> I also have a device with this failure to be useful in U-Boot while being functional in Linux
<marex> try setenv usb_pgood_delay 2000 and then rescan again
<shadows> thanks will try this later today and ask the user reporting this issue to also try
