I have a ProRes asset in a MOV container and noticing a difference of behavior between 5.1.1 and 7.1.1 with respect to detecting the color transfer characteristics... in 5.1.1 the video stream reads as

<JEEB>
yea, so the matrix coefficients bit is there in the AVFrames, and ffmpeg cli does read it from the AVFrames when configuring output (I added that around 4.4)
<JEEB>
I think there's a codecpar in AVStreams still, which does have the information if it's parsed at the correct moment
<^Neo>
codecpar is in AVStreams still, so it might be just that ffprobe.c got modified
UltraFuzzy has quit [Quit: UltraFuzzy]
<JEEB>
well it could be that previously more stuff was synchronized from decoder or its output to the AVStream's codecpar
<JEEB>
now they might be more distinct, but really I don't recall what exactly was changed at this point almost a year ago
<JEEB>
also you should test with current master if possible
Muimi has joined #ffmpeg
<^Neo>
ah it's unknown in 7.1.1
<^Neo>
that's why the json print isn't printing it I guess
<JEEB>
I would not be surprised with that
<^Neo>
> now they might be more distinct
<^Neo>
was this done as part of the CLI threading aspect?
<JEEB>
more distinct would mean that AVStream would contain closer to what's in the container, and frames what's in the actual contained video stream
<JEEB>
but as I noted, I am not sure of this being the reason at all :P
minimal has joined #ffmpeg
<JEEB>
a more likely reason is that something like in-avformat probing was limited more strictly to when it is required. in general within MP4-likes (such as its originator QTFF aka MOV), you don't need to attempt to probe formats

<MisterMinister>
Greetings and Salutations! Have two audio tracks in SRT feed, sometimes more, sometimes less, sometimes 2.0, 4.0 or 5.1 channels. Any decent method to ID audio tracks in `ffmpeg -af astat` report please? https://pastes.io/ffmpeg-711-astats lines:3117-3128. Already am doing FFprobe, then `-filter_complex "[0:a:0]...[0:a:X]..."` and it works but is cumbersome, as each SRT init takes 4-5 sec.
<MisterMinister>
Trying to use just an `-af astat..`, need to link astat multi chan report to audio track/channel ID/PID.
