<SiFuh>
ukky: Heh I was about to say that then realised ukky already did
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: That jaeger colour thing is terrible too.
<SiFuh>
Also why have you got SAY in the SYSLINUX config in the handbook? Why add extra stuff that isn't needed?
<farkuhar>
SiFuh: I was just following the precedent that the CRUX ISO uses, with its informative but unnecessary message "The system is coming up. Please wait..."
<farkuhar>
SiFuh: Did you ever fix the /usr/bin/setfont invocation in your rc.c?
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: No because it wasn't broken
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: secondly I have touched nothing since giving to you all for test. I have a life outside of Linux :-P however this week, I plan to continue with some Linux stuff and remove the error message for font because it doesn't need it.
<farkuhar>
According to the man-page, when called without any arguments /usr/bin/setfont will just load a default (usually 8xN) font, which might not be the value specified by the user in /etc/rc.conf
<SiFuh>
I know you told me and I even read it. Hence moving the error message is all that is needed
<SiFuh>
removing*
<farkuhar>
I was suggesting more than fiddling with the placement of the error message. Something like this instead: https://dpaste.com/9LUAFEXAE
<SiFuh>
HAHAHA
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: Okay, saved it to my TODO list. Will look at it this week.
<SiFuh>
perror("Failed to set console font"); <-- You won't need this
<farkuhar>
Supposedly the $BOLD and $RED functions in olutmies' rc were not working on older monitors. That got me curious whether the colour codes that jaeger added to the ISO startup scripts are also invisible on older monitors.
<SiFuh>
There are many ways to do it. When I actually do it, I will use a lighter, more intuned to ANSI C style anyway.
<SiFuh>
dlcusa: farkuhar: Did any of you miserable biddies read the discussion between zorz and I about having a 6 month release and only security and critical updates within that 6 months?
<SiFuh>
So every 6 months Crucial* is bleeding edge and none of this constant updating crap every 6 hours.
<farkuhar>
SiFuh: new releases on a semi-annual schedule <- If it's good enough for OpenBSD, it should be good enough for Crucial.
<farkuhar>
But this name "Crucial" will always have associations in my mind with the RAM/SSD manufacturer.
<SiFuh>
Semiannual
<SiFuh>
Biannual
<SiFuh>
Half-yearly
<farkuhar>
Biannual = every two years. Semiannual = every half year.
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: Yeah remiliascarlet is a woman, she has a way at manipulating minds ;-)
<SiFuh>
Hehe dictionary farkuhar
<SiFuh>
biennial is not biannual
<SiFuh>
Or did you Yanks change the meaning of it? hahaha
<farkuhar>
Maybe only in the context of compounding interest. It's just the kind of sneaky behaviour you expect from financial types, trying to change the terms of the contract so that the consumer gets a worse deal.
<farkuhar>
As in, advertise a savings account that accrues interest biannually, and the consumer thinks their account will get a boost twice a year. But in fact they have to wait two years between interest payments.
<SiFuh>
Hahaha sneaky pricks
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: Do you actually read contracts before signing them?
<SiFuh>
When I opened a bank account here, the lady handed me a form to sign. My wife was irritated that I had spent 30 minutes reading it. Asked the lady questions, and had them change the contract because the words they used were wrong.
<SiFuh>
In the car on the way home she said no one does like that. I said well that is because people do stupid shit all the time.
<SiFuh>
I don't have that bank account anymore. They suspended and locked my account because I didn't touch in 365 days which was not in the contract. So I was pissed and withdrew all the money and closed the account. They asked why and I said "Two reasons. YOU SPAM MY EMAIL every fscking week and you suspended my account without my permission."
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: The best thing to do is to take that money, buy gold and bury it. You get the best interest :-)
<dlcusa>
Yes, I saw that, SiFuh, but I couldn't add my agreement at that time.
