<brian|lfs>
mine is set like that still complains about no working directory
<brian|lfs>
do we have wgetpaste anymore
<jaeger>
I pulled alan's sddm port into a docker container, looks like it's just broken. I'm guessing he's using a fork of pkgutils
<jaeger>
Have you tried starting greetd manually, maybe it produces something more useful
<brian|lfs>
it gives a username and password filed then tries to logon and goes back to username
<brian|lfs>
field
<jaeger>
Anything in syslog?
<brian|lfs>
do I have to tell it about plasma and plasma-wayland
<jaeger>
It should find them automatically in /usr/share/xsessions and /usr/share/wayland-sessions
<jaeger>
You can see which one it has selected on the login screen and change it there if needed
<brian|lfs>
ok I'll look but didn't see anything
<jaeger>
I would also suggest making sure you can launch a desktop session without a greeter first to rule that out
<brian|lfs>
ah ok it was set to gnome lol
<brian|lfs>
ya plasma works fine with and without greetd guess reboot and see if that resolves the service
<brian|lfs>
oddly didn't have syslog-ng installed either just installed and enabled it
<brian|lfs>
probably help with steam-native troubleshooting
<jaeger>
I wouldn't say odd since it's not the default :)
<brian|lfs>
so I rebooted and it wouldn't let me log in and I could see the vconsole login prompt also
<jaeger>
tuigreet only runs on 1 VT so you should be able to switch to another one if it's not behaving
<brian|lfs>
exactly
<brian|lfs>
trying to get any error for steam-native
<brian|lfs>
normal steam-runtime works fine
<brian|lfs>
what irc client\do you all use on crux
<jaeger>
I use irssi
<cruxbridge>
<tim> greetd doesn't need anything specific really. You can try to run it from a tty directly (preferably not one if it spawns for you there) and then you might be able to catch some of its output
<brian|lfs>
looks like steam-native isn't finding steam-runtime-launcher even though steam-runtime works
<cruxbridge>
<tim> steam-native runs for me
<brian|lfs>
does it only work in wayland maybe not X11
<brian|lfs>
?
<cruxbridge>
<tim> i see no reason why it would not work on x11 over wayland..? I think steam is not even wayland native yet
<brian|lfs>
ok hmm not sure whats different on my system to cause it to just got in a loop with a crash window popup
<brian|lfs>
and I try to click the link for more info and nothing comes up
<cruxbridge>
<tim> probably not having xdg-open to pass the link to browser for you, or something like that
<brian|lfs>
why do you keep calling me tim lol
<brian|lfs>
or is tim your name
<cruxbridge>
<tim> lmao it's mine, thank you very much
<cruxbridge>
<tim> cruxbridge is a irc<->matrix bridge
<brian|lfs>
if I want to use wayland why is it putting the whole screen in the upper left hand corner in 1/4 the screen
<brian|lfs>
I thought that was a bug with my distro appears to be a AMD gpu thing
<cruxbridge>
<tim> no idea. I am working with an older triple head setup here, its very reliable for me with amdgpu. It never gives me any headaches
<jaeger>
Haven't seen that one and I also run a wayland session with an AMD GPU
<jaeger>
I had to fight a lot with wayland+nvidia but far less with wayland+amd
<brian|lfs>
ah ok hmm
<brian|lfs>
google says bug with kde
<brian|lfs>
someone else had to edit config.fish which I don't have fish non issue
<brian|lfs>
seems crazy and everyone rushing to drop X11 support lol
<jaeger>
Well, at least for now you can still use x11 if you prefer it
<brian|lfs>
well not sure I have a choice if I can't change my resolution under wayland lol
<brian|lfs>
well 345 people in plasma lol

no don't appear to be how do I get pulseaudio / pipewire to play nicce neither pavucontrol or the mixer in plasma work
<brian|lfs>
they can't connect
<brian|lfs>
so I can't change audio devices for steam games
<jaeger>
Do you have either pulseaudio or pipewire actually running?
<jaeger>
pulseaudio used to start itself but I think beerman disabled that as he prefers pipewire... so you'd either need to reenable pulseaudio in /etc/pulse/client.conf or start pipewire, I think
<jaeger>
For example, I put pipewire, pipewire-pulse, and wireplumber into plasma's autostart list
<brian|lfs>
ya I figured it out working now
<brian|lfs>
pulse was off as default
<brian|lfs>
in the client.conf
<brian|lfs>
that was painful I was just on vrchat
