<brian|lfs> @jaeger, I just replied to what I think you replied to via email with a screen shot of what plasma wayland does on multiple systems to me.
<brian|lfs> jaeger,
<brian|lfs> maybe seeing my screen shot will help
<jaeger> Your description of the problem was clear, I didn't have any trouble understanding what was happening. I just have no idea what causes it because I've never seen it happen on any of my systems. Have you tried connecting to a different display?
<jaeger> Side note, you don't use .xinitrc to start wayland sessions
<jaeger> .xinitrc is for xorg
<jaeger> If you run the ck-launch-session version of the comamnd from a console without a greeter or .xinitrc/startx, does it behave any differently?
<jaeger> side question, does your TV maybe have some picture-in-picture mode that's activated here?
<brian|lfs> my monitor maybe good point
<brian|lfs> ok what if I don't have ck-launch-session
<brian|lfs> $ ck-launch-session /usr/bin/startplasma-wayland
<brian|lfs> Detected locale "C" with character encoding "ANSI_X3.4-1968", which is not UTF-8.
<brian|lfs> If this causes problems, reconfigure your locale. See the locale(1) manual
<brian|lfs> for more information.
<brian|lfs> Qt depends on a UTF-8 locale, and has switched to "C.UTF-8" instead.
<brian|lfs> org.kde.startup: not a reply org.freedesktop.locale1 QDBusMessage(type=Error, service="", error name="org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown", error message="The name org.freedesktop.locale1 was not provided by any .service files", signature="s", contents=("The name org.freedesktop.locale1 was not provided by any .service files") )
<brian|lfs> startplasmacompositor: Could not start D-Bus. Can you call qdbus
<brian|lfs> nevermind ck-launch-session /usr/lib/plasma-dbus-run-session-if-needed /usr/bin/startplasma-wayland
<brian|lfs> works
<brian|lfs> sorry for all the pasting earlier
<brian|lfs> so seeing greeted kills my keyboars when I log out should I add that line to my .bashrc?

<brian|lfs> jaeger, for defaulting greetd to startplasma-wayland what does your config.toml look like?

<jaeger> brian|lfs: https://dpaste.com/G7R3RSBWY is my config.toml. If I start it on any of the VTs that are in use by getty they behave badly, that's why I set it to "next"
<jaeger> If you haven't already, make sure you have dbus running in SERVICES in /etc/rc.conf, too
<jaeger> Since dbus has both a system and a user session

<brian|lfs> ok so you have to hit F3 every time and pick startplasma-wayland?
<cruxbridge> <tim> fwiw, i start greetd via services array on the default vt setting and that works for me.
<cruxbridge> <tim> No switching required
<cruxbridge> <tim> I have the same problem with exiting the session will kill the input, thought that was a me problem.

<jaeger> I do not have to select the session each time, it either defaults to plasma wayland for me or remembers my choice
<jaeger> presumably that's a tuigreet function rather than greetd in this case
<jaeger> And tuigreet has some options to remember session selection, you could try those
