Me? Slow but steady progress on the SICL project. Others work faster like yitzi and scymtym. I am currently working on an "assembler" for RISC-V.
<metalisp>
uh I started with risc-v too
<metalisp>
bought a tiny microcontroller for experimenting
<metalisp>
hope risc-v will gain popularity

I sure hope so too.

That course was based on On Lisp by Paul Graham.
<mesaoptimizer>
fun. It is quite rare for universities to have courses that focus on lisp or macris
<mesaoptimizer>
its nice that you introduced your students to CL
<beach>
We (me and idurand) taught Common Lisp for more than 10 years to more than 100 students each year.
<mesaoptimizer>
Did you notice any impact on French industry language usage?
<mesaoptimizer>
I guess a thousand students isn't a lot though, so probably not yet
<beach>
We didn't investigate that. But (as expected) a fair number of students hated it (because it did not correspond to their previous knowledge) but some liked it very much, and we got email from them many years later, thanking us.
<beach>
Some of them made significant contributions to McCLIM later on.
<mesaoptimizer>
oh wow, that's lovely

Yeah, and a few of them wrote the Eclipse window manager using CLX.
<mesaoptimizer>
I think that the survival and growth of any language, including CL, depends on what I call a 'living lineage' of practitioners.
<beach>
You mean where one generation teaches the next one?
<mesaoptimizer>
not ncecessarily teach the language, but at least help someone learn to think the way they do, and help them see why the person from the previous generation really enjoys and uses the language, and therefore why the new person might also do so
<beach>
I see. That makes sense.
<beach>
I think we have that with #commonlisp and #clschool.
<mesaoptimizer>
(for example, I made friends with a user from this channel a few years ago, and through occasional conversations with him, I got interested in trying CL. Over the course of an year and a half, I'd pester him with rather dumb questions -- from the perspective of someone who did traditional CS and was unfamiliar with a wide swathes of relevant CS theory -- and after the conversations, trying
<mesaoptimizer>
multiple CL books, using stumpWM for months, clarifying my confusions and frustrations, I got to a point where I was convinced that CL is worth investing a lot of my time to learn and to use.)
<mesaoptimizer>
yeah, I think that I was quite wary of #commonlisp and #clschool back when I was first introduced to CL, and its quite important for a newcomer to *not* have a bad experience when they are just new to a language (because their interaction with the community can and will sour them on the language). I think it was pretty sane for me to stay away from the channels until I felt like I had 'proven
<mesaoptimizer>
myself' enough that it would be a faux pas for someone to snap at me for asking a question (and I could hold my own in a technical conversation).
<beach>
I see. This channel (and #clschool too) is quite friendly though. It is rare to get snapped at for asking Common Lisp questions.
