<fiftydinar> Yes, I also think it's great that it's forked. Bureaucracy of freedesktop projects usually slow things down.
meetpatty has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<sicelo> gawd. this is terrible. increasing the fragmentation
<Wizzup> I don't think I agree
<Wizzup> I don't know if I am supposed to have faith in the person who forked it, but the x11 'maintainers' were clearly not maintaining it
<Wizzup> this became extra clear when they started making xwayland only releaess
<Wizzup> so they were essentially purposefully killing x11 by not making any more releases
<Wizzup> just about any movement is better than no movement
<Wizzup> imo
<fiftydinar> "just about any movement is better than no movement" - I agree

<kiva> fiftydinar: you talked last night about running Maemo in laptop...I would say Maemo is good distribution to screens under 12" inch, not touch screen needed, mouse and keyboard i enough. Bigger screens you might want xfce to use overlapped windows...it would be fun run xfce in Maemo "window"..i dont know is that possible.
<fiftydinar> kiva: Yes, just in process of dd-ing rn. I'll consider other solutions also.
norayr has joined #maemo-leste
<fiftydinar> Managed to boot it, it shows the top bar with Charging orange bar in full resolution, then it switches to some light blue "No messages yet" windowed screen
<fiftydinar> I wonder if I need to edit the resolution somewhere or something else
<fiftydinar> I can send a video & logs for better troubleshooting
<kiva> do you see clock in top bar? with xrandr at terminal you can change resolution.
<fiftydinar> Here's the link of video on what happens: https://temp.sh/FGLgi/VID_20250608_141000.mp4
<fiftydinar> Idk how to get out of that "No messages yet" window. Cursor shows X on black bars, alluding that resolution changed.
<fiftydinar> Just stopped on the frame and it shows Welcome screen for Conversations for a micro-second around 3 second timestamp
<fiftydinar> I'll also try chimaera build, to see if there's any difference in this bug
norayr has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<kiva> It seems that screen left side missing...
<kiva> try ctrl+shift+x
<kiva> after that try type: top
<kiva> and enter
<kiva> we try fill screen to see how much missing.
<kiva> after that you can press: q
<kiva> to get back prompt
<kiva> did you see anything?
<fiftydinar> no, ctrl+shift+x doesn't do anything
<fiftydinar> That should open terminal, right?
<kiva> Yes it should. try type that top blindly.
<fiftydinar> still nothing
<kiva> what is you Dell model?
<kiva> *your
<kiva> or its GPU?
trix2 is now known as trix
<fiftydinar> Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series. It's Intel iGPU
<fiftydinar> Display renders right, then it doesn't when "No messages yet" screen shows up
<kiva> Actually right side of clock there should button with two blue squares.
<kiva> And that No messages yet not should came in start without touching anything.
<fiftydinar> Hmm, yes, you're right
narodnik has joined #maemo-leste
mkfx has joined #maemo-leste
<kiva> your actual iGPU model might Intel HD Graphics 520 or 620..It should be work, but should ask some developer about that problem (I am just user).
<kiva> try restart with HDMI-monitor connected
fiftydinar has quit [Quit: fiftydinar]
<kiva> If you have time you can try also chimaera build, because some Intel iGPU:s are picky about linux version (they work, but can be very slow or have some strange problems).
<kiva> generic x86 32-bit Maemo Leste build with generic VESA driver would be good idea as fall back for laptops.
fiftydinar has joined #maemo-leste
<fiftydinar> Great news, chimaera build works!
<fiftydinar> Here's the picture: https://temp.sh/CznOv/IMG_20250608_161444_902.jpg
<kiva> good..thanks for testing!
<fiftydinar> Maybe it's Mesa or xorg bug in Daedalus for Intel iGPU
<fiftydinar> or kernel bug as you said
<kiva> its more like bug with Intel stuff, they does not give enough infomation that linux programmers can make good open source drivers.
<kiva> hint, if you want install Firefox in it: https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=101411
<kiva> and with laptop do not that touch screen support..use up and down keys to scroll..after you learn you dont want miss it. I use that way with Pinephone.

<kiva> Is Leste fast in your laptop?
leste has joined #maemo-leste
<kiva> btw..you might need to this: sudo /etc/expandcard.sh
<fiftydinar> It's very smooth, I like it
<kiva> to get space.
<fiftydinar> I already expanded the storage
<inky> hmm, interesting. i think with custom xorg.conf you should be able to make daedalus maemo working.
<inky> it would help to see what is written in Xorg.0.log (i think now it is written in users home dir?)
<inky> but congratulations on getting this working, i am glad you did.
<fiftydinar> I like the layout & mobile features of Maemo Leste, I find it great for PCs also, besides it being focused for mobiles
<fiftydinar> I'll investigate daedalus sometime later
<kiva> fiftydinar: You can start new thread about how you did that there: https://talk.maemo.org/forumdisplay.php?f=66
<fiftydinar> kiva: Good idea, I'll write the guide later
<dsc_> fiftydinar: nice :)
<dsc_> did you also try the latest (daedalus) ?
<fiftydinar> dsc_: Yes, but if you look at the chat history, you can see that left side of the screen is missing for some reason & it always shows "No messages yet" screen without any way to get out of it
<sicelo> Wizzup: what's the X11 patch?
<fiftydinar> Cromite works well, it doesn't have GPU acceleration for video decoding, but everything else is very smooth & working.
<fiftydinar> But even without GPU acceleration for video decoding, it plays 1080p 24fps with very few stutters
<fiftydinar> The only thing I notice is that .desktop file needs to be placed in hildon subfolder & custom location for icon is not working, so I need to place it in "icons/scalable/apps" also for it to show in the launcher
<fiftydinar> that's a bit non-standard, but easily solvable

<freemangordon> fiftydinar: actually in launcher there is "debian" submenu
<fiftydinar> freemangordon: That's only for Debian subfolder in the menu I believe
<fiftydinar> Ah, I read better, yes indeed. I installed Cromite AppImage, so it's outside of Debian sources
<fiftydinar> what I meant about subfolder is ~/.local/share/applications/hildon path, where desktop files are placed

<kiva> sad thing with Pinephone is that latest Vivaldi 7.4 is about 25% slower than 6.x versions.

<arno11> it always shows 2G
<sicelo> N900?
<arno11> yep
<sicelo> how did you see it? the log still available to share?
<arno11> hmm not sure, let me check
<arno11> nope, no more log, but i saw it in monitor-ofono for sure: it was switching between hspa and edge
<sicelo> there is https://git.maemo.org/leste/bugtracker/issues/745 , but afaik, that was only affecting Droid 4
<arno11> yep
<sicelo> because i've definitely seen 3.5G and 2.5 show up on my N900.
<arno11> maybe a long time ago, no ?
<sicelo> anyway, maybe see if you can get a log, and perhaps update that issue. someone might pick up the issue :-)
<sicelo> at least i am likely to do so, especially if N900 is also affected :p
<arno11> not easy to get a log again as it happened (switching to edge) because of bad network
<sicelo> ok
<sicelo> remind me from mid-next week onwards. i might look at it.
