<kiva> It seems that iio-sensor-prox eats 1%-2%CPU all the time in Pinephone. It might not be first thing to optimize, but I pretty sure there is something somehow to optimize.

<uvos__> iio-s-p needs to sample the accel all the time when the display is on and auto rotate is also on
<uvos__> unless the chip and kernel driver supports irq mode
<uvos__> where the chip tells iio-s-p when the oritation changed
<uvos__> while afaik all chips in the phones we support, support this the kernel dosent
<uvos__> so the way to optimize this would be to improve the kernel drivers
<sicelo> uvos__: while you're here ... I think I have a fix for https://git.maemo.org/leste/bugtracker/issues/745
<sicelo> the bearer can report umts, hsdpa, hsupa, or hspa. we (currently) only have icon for 3G and 3.5G. any suggestion for how to map all those to my those two icons?
<sicelo> ideally we should add more icons, but that could be a job for another day :-)
<Wizzup> hm, don't we have a 2.5g icon?\
<Wizzup> I'm pretty sure we do
<sicelo> 2.5, yes we do. i am asking about the 3G side of things, where there are lots of options, but scarcity of icons
<sicelo> on 2G side it's easy - only 2G and EDGE/2.5
<uvos__> sicelo: i would ignore hsupa entirely and have 3g for umts and 3.5g for everything else
<uvos__> not entirely relevant since i dont think any sutch networks exist anymore but evdo should probubly be 3.5g too
<uvos__> or was that umc
<uvos__> im not quite sure atm
<uvos__> anyhow the cdma equiavlent of hsdpa
<sicelo> hsupa probably still exists in other regions ...

<fiftydinar> I just noticed there is no xdg-open & no mimeapps.list in config directory. How Maemo Leste manages default apps?
<dsc_> fiftydinar: some fragments of info here :p https://git.maemo.org/leste-extras/hamsterfiler/issues/1
<fiftydinar> thanks
pere has joined #maemo-leste
<dsc_> fiftydinar: see also /usr/share/applications/hildon/conversations.desktop
<dsc_> where it registers a mimetype
<dsc_> (personally I prefer XDG)
<fiftydinar> Yeah, I think it's better to get it ported to xdg for better app compatibility
<sicelo> ages old adage is true - the project welcomes contributions :-)
<uvos__> so hildon-mime uses xdg itself to open files
<uvos__> so im not sure what you are asking for here
<uvos__> you should be able to just use and xdg mime
<uvos__> the only problem is that atm there is no way to set the prefered handler
<uvos__> it just calls the first one
<fiftydinar> Thanks, I'll check it out

<arno11> sicelo: the busctl command returns nothing (n900, 3.5g active)
<sicelo> sure you didn't make a typo somewhere?
<arno11> i don't think so, i'll double check
<sicelo> please double-check :-)
<arno11> sec
<arno11> seems correct, no error but no answer
<sicelo> weird. what about `busctl tree org.ofono` ?
<sicelo> maybe your modem is named something different, not /n900_2
<arno11> it is n900_2
<sicelo> then this should be working
<sicelo> you must have a typo ... e.g. extra space, or something similar
<sicelo> s/extra/unnecessary/
<sicelo> even if you don't have data active, this should return something
<arno11> (baby around...not easy) will check in 20min
<sicelo> sure, no rush. thanks

<sicelo> or maybe it was never reported for N900 ...
<freemangordon> on d4 (connected to wifi) I see "Bearer = none"
xmn has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<sicelo> interesting. what version ofono?
<freemangordon> ofono 1:2.13.0-1+4m7
xmn has joined #maemo-leste
<sicelo> i have same version
<sicelo> maybe let me reboot device
<freemangordon> lemme check if not connected to wifi
<freemangordon> sicelo: connectonmanager reports "none" for bearer even when connected to 3G
<freemangordon> I mean "data connection"
* freemangordon checks ofono
<sicelo> N900 reports Bearer on PostmarketOS, with ofono 2.14. this all doesn't make sense
<freemangordon> maybe it is ficed in 2.14
<freemangordon> *fixed
<sicelo> i don't see why it would ever be broken :-)
<freemangordon> right :)
<freemangordon> sicelo: BTW, which interface we talk about? org.ofono.ConnectionManager, right?
<sicelo> yes
<sicelo> per doc, that's where Bearer should be
<freemangordon> mhm
fiftydinar has joined #maemo-leste
<freemangordon> have you ever seen that working?
<freemangordon> besides 2.14
<sicelo> i believe i have
<freemangordon> ok
<sicelo> and from, https://git.maemo.org/leste/bugtracker/issues/745, we have uvos' confirmation that Bearer was available for D4 too
<sicelo> on N900, we likely don't care a lot about Bearer, since NetworkRegistration interface also reports same info.
<freemangordon> ok, this have to be fixed
<freemangordon> same on d4though
<freemangordon> it reports Technology
<freemangordon> but, that doe snot mean it shoudl not be fixed
<sicelo> but on D4, it only reports gsm and umts. you never get 'edge' or hs*
<freemangordon> mhm
<sicelo> so the issue 745 was opened, which i have a fix for, but now bearer has disappeared on my device :p
<freemangordon> hmm, I don't see isimodem calling ofono_gprs_bearer_notify()
<sicelo> yes,
<sicelo> but i would prioritize D4 first, and N900 later
<freemangordon> qmimodem calls it, but only when changed it seems
<sicelo> actually, isimodem doesn't have anything of bearer, so there's nothing to _notify. everything is in network-registration.c.
<sicelo> hah! after reboot, Bearer is available now
<freemangordon> on d4?
<sicelo> yeah. well, at least just the property
<freemangordon> yeah, property is tehre
<freemangordon> *there
<freemangordon> but it seems to always be 'none'
<sicelo> before the reboot, i didn't have it
<sicelo> and yes, i see it always reports None
<fiftydinar> I tested Steam AppImage & it works great. Didn't test the autostart. However, I'll note that keyboard doesn't work when playing games through Proton. Everything else works flawlessly considering the hardware. I don't know is it the Maemo Leste issue, Proton issue, SDL issue or something else, just reporting here for the future.
fiftydinar has quit [Quit: fiftydinar]
<sicelo> freemangordon: if you're looking at the D4 issue, i guess it's in the D4 side, since qmimodem side appears to be fine, at least it reports bearer correctly on Librem5 (gobi on top of qmimodem)
<freemangordon> no, it is not
<freemangordon> qmimodem looks for ExtendedDataBearerTechnology tag, which I guess is not reported by d4 modem
<freemangordon> I suspect it reports CurrentDataBearerTechnology
<freemangordon> will have to confirm that
xinomilo has quit [Quit: Leaving]
akossh has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
<sicelo> i see
<sicelo> so maybe before, the Bearer was getting reported from the AT interface? because the D4 did report a valid bearer value in the past
<sicelo> at least N900/isimodem, i think is not worth spending much time on. reporting only NetworkRegistration/Technology seems OK per docs and code (even though doc limits the possible values in Technology. the code doesn't)
<sicelo> and ConnectionManager/Bearer is optional, per docs. Anyway, i'll go on with the connui changes I had in mind, and wait for you to fix Bearer :p

<sicelo> only compile tested however, since D4 Bearer is broken atm. can't see why it wouldn't work though
